Hello! Welcome to the forum. I’ve been lurking on here for quite some time and I’ve decided to start posting and interacting with Community as I’ve seen the industry really move forward the best for five years in terms of digital processes and bang for the buck electronics. It’s really exciting setting up a new rig but I would caution that if you have not spent time comparing different components and having a chance to live with some stuff in your home you should take caution when investing so as not to lose money as you swap out components as you discover what type of sound signature you prefer. In terms of decks I have auditions a number in many or close to each other when you’re dealing with dacs under $1000. The project pre box S2 digital dac Got a really nice write up and was placed on stereo files recommended a class and I have also checked out the Benchmark stuff and I found that to be great. I will say that the best Dac I have heard beyond a doubt was the Zen series from Innuos With the flag ship being just on another level although for $13,000 USD I would hope so.

Hey all. My name is Andrew, I live in NJ and have been into audio for about 5 years. Over the past year, I've really fallen deep into the hobby and decided this past January to leave my longtime corporate job at Amazon and venture out and start an audio store. After months of prep, this past week, I opened Bloom Audio (bloomaudio.com). I'm honestly here to learn -- and I have a LOT to learn -- not shill my store; I will absolutely follow the MOT protocol. Looking forward to getting to know you all! :)

Hello friends! My name is Jake and am guilty of being a lurker over the past several years. I am actually much more active on that "other" headphone gear forum and for whatever reason, never got around to creating an account and actually posting anything here. Shame on me, I know! Better late than never! Over the past several months I've been absorbing all the great information available on this forum and in the process, have really grown to appreciate and value the friendly atmosphere here. I am not nearly as knowledgeable as many of you are, but I will try to come out of my shell a bit and become a little more active here. I think this community is great, and I am glad to now be a part of it!

    Hi
This is Saurav from Long Island, NY
I like listening to speakers but due to limited space in my apartment and sharing a wall with neighbour I moved to headphones in 2012. I started with Sennheiser closed back and Klipsch image S4 iem which I used with my Cowon j3. I still have J3 and I love the eq feature and the fact that it gives me 30hr of play time. Then in 2015 I bought PSB M4U1 and used it with Dragonfly v2. Later I got Chord Mojo to replace DF. However I was never satisfied by closed back and that took me to HD600 along with Valhalla2 and Dekoni hybrid pads. Since I was into speaker listening so I was always fascinated by out of head experience and bigger soundstage and that led me to HD800s. I still have Valhalla2 but to run HD800s, I got LP with Qutest and invested in some NOS tubes. Although I like bigger soundstage out of it but I discovered that my preferred sound signature is warm and dark sound which was not the case when I was listening thru speakers. Over the year I have noticed that I don’t care about the air and clarity but if I can hear warm and laid back even little darker sound with no treble piercing my ear I enjoy myself. Right now I have 800s, 600, Empyrean. But I always go back to HD600. The vocals in 600 gives me goosebumps. As DAC, I have Qutest and Gungnir Multibit. I don’t know why I have both and I don’t use portable gear anymore and but not sure why I’m still hanging on to Mojo.
I have tried IEMs but they never sounded right to me. I can go till headphones but IEMs are not my cup of tea. Going by the impression I hear, I feel ZMF Aeolus sounds like what I need good bass and less treble. However with proper EQ Empyrean gives me good time.

Edit: I listen to classic Rock, EDM and Bollywood music and I have digione signature player as source. I hope this should give enough information about me.

Made the mistake of posting in a thread before here. Correcting that.
I work in the tech supply chain, specifically around open source, and like tinkering with physical devices in my spare time.
I like trying audio equipment and passing it on to people who might enjoy it. Sometimes hifi, sometimes personal audio. Last project was early 70s hifi build for a family member (CA-1000+PL1200 at the core). Based in Japan, so easy access to classic equipment, and near places like Shenzhen for modern components/completed items.

Hello, I'm from Malaysia. Been lurking for a long time but didn't really feel like I could contribute to the discussion, as I don't have much access to equipment. Since it's an open period however I thought I would just take the jump.

Am still a total newbie in audio.

I've been lurking here for 3-4 months or so after stumbling onto the site while researching DAC's for a recent upgrade. I respect the culture here that values measurements as well as subjective listening experience. I think too many people in this hobby are strictly objective or subjective, and I appreciate the more well-rounded approach focusing on descriptive differences in sound.

I'm a long time music junkie that got into equipment upgrades maybe about 10-12 years ago when I purchased a used Micro-Seiki turntable. The first time I heard real imaging was the "wow" moment and I never looked back. I never knew what I had been missing until then.

Last year I sold my entire vinyl collection and gear to fund a system upgrade. I realized I had been spending too much time/effort in acquiring records and I was getting just as much enjoyment from my digital setup. I'm not much of a collector anyway and as much as I loved listening to vinyl, I have no regrets. The two channel system is just about complete and these days I've been doing a lot more research into headphone systems.

Glad to be here, and hopefully I can help contribute.

Hi all! I’ve also lurked for a long time and finally opened an account.

My headphone journey started with a pair of Grado 225i and some Musical Fidelity V-series components. Upgraded a bunch throughout the years and have been lucky enough to try a bunch of gear. Stuck mainly with Schiit components after buying the original Lyr and Bifrost, then Mjolnir and Gungnir, then Rag and Yggdrasil.

My audio interests alternate between headphones, 2-channel, and vinyl. I have a home office rig with Yggdrasil + Rag feeding LS50s in near field and a 2-channel rig with Gungnir MB + Freya + dual Vidar feeding Ascend RAAL towers. The 2-channel rig also has my Rega RP40 w/ Groovetracer components, Ortofon 2M black cartridge, and Musical Fidelity M1-LPS phono stage.

Due to a relatively new long commute via train, I’ve been in to mobile stuff recently — AK SP1000m + CA IEMs. It was a big surprise how great modern IEMs and DAPs have gotten.

Hello all. Another music lover on a budget here. I've always read a lot of reviews but never posted much on forums. I really loved InnerFidelity before Tyll left, I haven't been back much since then. SBAF is new to me, I really love the idea of subjective AND objective approach.

Don't tell anyone, there's too many people moving here already making it harder for me to buy a house, but Oregon is Amazing in the spring and summer.

Actually, all year IMHO. Of course, living on the coast, I never really experience much winter -- rarely drops below freezing, snow sticks on the ground ~maybe~ once a year. Can get a bit wet of course :)

Hello people, lovely to be able to join up at SBAF. I am a music enthusiast and fall into the category of a budget audiophile. I love music of most genres jazz, rock, pop, EDM, house & deep house. As a school, high school and college student, I was heavily influenced by the music of the 1960s through 1980s.

Hi long time music lover on the wrong side of 50 here. Not that much into gear but have realised that in order to have a good home music experience without spending stupid amounts of dosh I need to be better informed. My listening is strictly 2 channel at home and my tastes are anywhere from Al Green to the Walin' Jennies to Winton Marsalis to Linda Ronstadt, Paul Young to the Beatles so make of that what you will...

My current rig is Technics 1200 Mk II, Cambridge Audio CXC, Intel i5pc, Stack Audio The Link streamer, SMSL M8A DAC, Rogue Audio Magnum II, KEF LS50 and dual REL T9i subs.

I consider my rig end game for my needs/likes except for the DAC for which the Yggdrasil is the current front runner as it sounds decent, the price point is fair and I can buy it locally and get it serviced here in the Little Red Dot aka Singapore. Thank you all for the discussions and reviews on the various DACs, very educational and interesting. Look forward to enjoying this wonderful hobby with you.
    Cheers
    Roy

Hi, I have been a lurker here at SBAF site for quite a while now. I am a 50+ music lover from Malaysia and strive to keep my gears down to the minimum number possible without sacrificing much of performance / sound quality aspect in music playback. I listen mainly to classical music, contemporary jazz and some vocals. I hope to upgrade my existing DAC that would enable me to eventually call it a day on vinyl playback that offers a high degree of realism but at the same time contributing to high maintenance costs, hassles and clutter at home. I thoroughly enjoy the objectivity approach adopted by SBAF site on review of DACs and thus avoiding the false sensation or hype so created by mainstream audio publications / online websites.
