New user here, currently running a MrSpeakers AFC1 with ifi Micro black label. Been into the hobby for a few years without much change in my setup. Mostly here to lurk, learn, and maybe check out the sloppy seconds section (for sale) periodically.

    Hi ladies and gentlemen!

I am into this hobby for almost a year.
    I am using this config: Android smartphone with UAPP/Hiby Music Player->Marantz PM7005 built-in DAC->Loxjie P20/Jds Labs Atom->HD6XX.
I have a dream, I would able to buy a better DAC and headphone amp someday.

Hi all! Been in and out of the hobby for ~15 years or so. Always been interested in building amps, buil a CMOY, Pimeta, PPAv2, then got out of it for a few years. Always interested in the DIY projects, so built a PupDAC, Bottlehead Crack w/ mods, M3, Krell KSA5 Clone, then got out of the hobby for a few years more. Getting back into it now, checked out my M3 & Crack so far, they are still working great along with my PupDAC. Have Senn HD650 now and Hifiman Drop HE 4xx on the way, never had planar magnetics before...had a lot of different headphones in the past but the HD650/Crack combo was so good I sold all the other headphones. I ordered the Whammy & Noir headphone amp kits to build on Black Friday so have some projects to tackle over the holiday break.

    Hello,

Long time lurker finally deciding to introduce myself.

Started over a decade ago with the HD-580's, then eventually bought several more headphones till I had the HD-600's and old Maxed Out Headroom amp for home use and Etymotic ER4's for portable use. Primarily listened to speakers via CD and SACD, but used headphones a couple times a month when I felt like it or wanted something portable.

Bought a pair of monitors and amp that I was happy with and completely ignored all the changes in the world until I discovered the ease and flexibility of streaming audio via my chromecast to the main system a few years ago.

Being struck with the upgrade bug, I bought a series of dacs/headphones/amps in the past few years and am amazed at the quality and variety available today. Still happy with my speaker rig, but probably due for some upgrades as well in the next year or two.

This forum is an incredible resource and wanted to say thank you to the community for all the guidance provided.

    Hello SBAF,

I've been enjoying this forum for sometime now and thought I'd like to become part of it. I'm a 45 years young guy and recently started building up a headphone listening setup in my home. I've been using a Pi 3b platform to stream files from my server and have been adding components the last year in a quest for better sound. I'm using a very old but in good shape HD600 and actually came to this forum to check out information about the 800 (mods) and 800S.

Anyway, I hope to learn more here and even share my experiences on my journey to better sound.

    Hi I'm Aaron,

I've known about this forum for quite a while and heard many positive things about it through other sources. I work as a software developer and like to listen to music while working and during evenings. Roughly 7 years ago I bought a Little Dot Mkii amp, beyerdynamic dt 770 and used those up until this year. Lately I have been researching gear more and more in my off time.

I want to participate to gain knowledge in stereo and headphone related gear. My collection is very beginner:

    Topping D50s
    JDS Labs Atom
    Hifiman HE-400i
    Grado SR80e

    JBL L26 speakers
    Tubes4hifi SP11 preamp

I'm currently searching for a power amp to use with this setup and if anyone has experience with the Bryston 3B-ST or other recommendations I would love to hear your thoughts. I'm willing to spend around $1000 CAD.

Looking forward to being part of this community!

I’ve been a budget audiophile since I was 12- quite a few decades ago. My wife, however most definitely is not so I’ve switched from speakers to headphones. At this point in the process I’m pretty happy with my present gear (solid budget hi-fi or top end mid- fi depending on your perspective) but I enjoy reading about new equipment and especially offering my opinions.

Welcome aboard! I've seen your posts in Head-Fi, I think :). I'm pretty new here too, but it's a great community, and I've learned a lot from the people here just from lurking around.

Greetings All, from the gray and overcast skies of the Portland, Oregon area. I'm new to this forum and have really enjoyed the posts I've read on it. Here's a little about me -
I used to be on the ancient and original Naim forum before they did a system re-build some years ago and my account was erased. I've also been on PinkFishMedia for many years where my username is Naimnut. I've also been on Audiogon for many years where my username is markusthenaimnut.

Now I'm on various Forums under the name markustubesnow.

My system has recently undergone a significant change, as I have switched from a Naim NAC82 preamp with Hicap power supply to a Supratek Cortese preamp with an LCR phono stage. For those not familiar with Supratek, it is a point-to-point hard wired all tube preamp, built to order in Australia. Though I still own a Naim CD player most of my listening these days is via my laptop into a MHDT Orchid DAC.

Here's a quick summary of my system -
    Analog front end:
    Linn Sondek LP12/Ittok arm/Dynavector 17D3 cartridge
Sony 2251 direct-drive table with Sony arm, Signet 33e cartridge into Plinius Jarrah phono stage. This is used mainly for 45s and albums that are fairly beat up.
Numark TT-100 dj table, with crap arm and Stanton dj cartridge. This used for really *really* beat up albums, 45s or 78s.
    Nakamichi Cassette Deck 2

    Digital front end:
    Naim CD3.5
KLH DVD 8350 used as a transport into MHDT Orchid. 75 Ohm cable is Nordost Blue Heaven.
Dell laptop streaming Spotify (yes I know I should switch over to Qobuz or Tidal) into the Orchid DAC. USB cable is the somewhat fancy-looking one that came from MHDT Labs with the Orchid.

    Preamp:
Supratek Cortese with LCR phono stage

    Power amps:
    Quad 909
    Innersound Electrostatic F300

    Speakers:
    Quad ESL 2805s
    JBL 4430 studio monitors

Power is via a Goal Zero Yeti 1250 lead-acid battery generator. All power cords are stock.

Cables are a hodge-podge. Nothing very fancy.

    Questions I often ponder -
    1. How do current production Chinese 6SN7 tubes and their variants compare to the various Russian tubes and older vintage tubes (Ken-Rad VT231, RCAs, Sylvanias, etc.)
    2. How do I get my Triplett 3423 tube tester calibrated?
    3. How would a Mirror Audio Tubador or Abbas Audio DAC compare to my MHDT Orchid?

I know there is always better equipment out there, but I love the sound of my system.

I registered back in November but forgot I didn't do this post,so here's this post now!

Hi, I am a headphone nerd like everyone else, I used to be an ASR cultist until my eyes were forced open against their will when I found myself in possession of multiple dacs, and amps at once, and expected just about no difference between them (3 of amps were THX, the smsl sp200, monolith 887, and monolith 788), and what I found instead was fairly large differences that I was absolutely shocked nobody really talked abuot (at least between the thx amps). The dacs shocked me the most though, and the worst part was the best measuring dac on hand, sounded the worst (SU8), same with the best measuring amp (sp200). Since then I've done a bit more exploration and accepted reality, in that time I've also discovered what a duplicitous conartist Amir is, and now wish ti help free people from his spell. I wasted a lot of money on his advice, he's incredibly tempting to newbies....

But enough abuot that, I'm just your average dead rat remover by day, insomniac shut in by night who no lifes discord because it's one more thing to do among the countless other things at once that helps satisfy my ADD. Everyone I know thinks I'm crazy for buying so much audio equipment and headphones but IDC, also they're all getting ksc75's for xmas ;)

You can find me shitting up discord, most will agree that shitting up is the correct terminology. I'll try not to shit up this place any further than I already have.:)

GEAR: Focal Elex, Sendy Aiva (yes I know everyone hates them, I hate mine as well when used with a single ended connection, balanced they sound amazing though....ya, don't ask, been exploring that one for months, finally accepted it's voodoo witchcraft and moved on) HD6xx, HD580 (on their way from poland), TH-x00

    Hi All,
I've been passionate about music most of my life - mostly just listening as I appear to be as musically talented as my dog. I'm looking to upgrade some of my gear and just can't stand to read another 4.5 out of 5 star review from the major sites. Looking forward to meeting some of you.

    Hi Everyone,
Just joined the site after lurking for some time. I'm mostly into rock and metal, and listen on both headphones and speakers. Headphones more frequently (Grados, Beyers, Hifiman mostly, on various gear from Schiit, Chord, etc), but speakers whenever I get the house to myself (Magnepan 1.7i with Schiit gear).
I like the "measurements with a side of sanity" approach. I like to try out things before buying, but it becomes harder for some items, especially with decreasing amounts of dealerships. Looking to hear more people's opinions, and to find out about any local meets in the MN-Twin Cities area where I can try things out.

    Greetings from SE Washington State!

I've waited quite awhile to be able to join and am delighted to say hello to everybody.

As my username implies, I'm a jazz musician. I am not famous, nor have I ever played with anybody who is famous. I have played with a boatload of very fine musicians who have played with some people that are sort of famous. I'm a percussionist, meaning congas and drums.

I never played for a living. I'm just a lucky amateur who got a lot of gigs with some pretty good musicians.

I'm retired, mostly from a lot of years of sales and marketing, photography and a 15 year stint as a restaurant owner.

I also love music and have from my earliest childhood memories.

Over the past 5 years I have rebuilt my system with a singular goal of having a system my wife could use. As it stands now, ONE power button on my Luxman integrated is all you need to turn it on. An iMac does the streaming. My wife loves it and so do I.

    My current system is:

    Speakers: Dali Epicon 8
    Amplification: Luxman 509x integrated
    Dac: PS Audio NuWave DSD
    Transport: Cambridge Audio CXC
Power condition: Core Power Technologies Equi Core 1800
    Streaming: iMac
Cables: Shunyata interconnects and power cables, Nordost Purple Flare speaker cables

My listening room is wonderful; 20x30 feet with carpet. Acoustically very good.

Musical tastes: Lots of R&B, funk, jazz, world music, (I especially like Afro-Cuban and many artists from the various countries in Africa. I'm more of a music junkie than a gear head, but I have to admit I've been obsessing over some sort of new DAC for the past year.

I'm retired in Nashville but spent 42 years in the pro audio biz. I spent the last 33 of those as the principal of rep/distributor firm in the Pacific Northwest working for Harman Pro (JBL, Soundcraft, dbx, Lexicon, Crown, etc.) plus Audio Technica, Denon Pro, RPG, Presonus, etc., etc. Many lines represented over the 33 years, a bit of hifi thrown in there too. I was chairman of the Pacific NW chapter of the AES for a number of years and before that I worked for Otari (tape recorders).

I'm shopping for a digital front end to augment /replace the Oppo BDP-105/iMac front end I have used for the last four years. I use Audirvana and/or Tidal while at my computer being streamed through a ProJect Pre Box S2 to the cans. .

    My A rig:

Room: 24'X15'X9.5', dedicated 200A panel for the system. GIK bass traps and gobos, carpeted.
Oppo BD105 (disc transport but also streams Tidal to the Revels)
    McIntosh C52
    McIntosh MC452
    Revel Salon 2s
    JLA Fathom F113V2
    JLA CR1
AKG and AT cans and mics (*naturally since I contracted to Harman and AT)
    Various odds and ends.

I'm cable agnostic. I usually build my own or buy finished from Blue Jeans depending on required terminations.

I have other hobbies, of course plus a dog, a cat, a wife, daughters, all of whom play guitar, piano, bass , sing, write, all except me. I'm just a sound guy to them.

Love the forum name, big reason I'm here!

Newcomer here but I’ve been in the headphones for a while. Most of the time I’m lurking and get to know people via PMs.

Recently my listening time is divided into either the Utopia+Dynahi and 007MKI+A random Stax amp.

Hopefully I could contribute a little bit to the community here.
