    Good day everybody

I am new to quality audio. I just got into it at the beginning of this pandemic. I got switched from office work to working from home and I had a lot more free time on my hands.

I purchased my first 5 channel set up and I was quite pleased from the performance of a sound bar. Which I am sure is obvious to many on here.

I enjoyed stereo listening quite a bit. Which led me into headphones and the entire rabbit hole lol.

I went from listening to music in my car and occasionally on my sound bar at home for an average of an hour per day to now 4 hours to possibly 8 hours per day.

So I am merely trying to optimize my experience and learn. I have got the primary fundamentals down on both worlds of audio, stereo and personal.

Just seeking some more insight from people who are experienced.

Be warned I over think a lot of stuff and try to think outside the box. I question all the advice that is given to me, so do not feel that I am ignoring suggestions provided. And would like to thank everyone’s opinion and help ahead of time. I take audio advice with bias because it comes down to the listening experience, what I love you may hate or the other way around. So it does take your personal journey and discovery to find a sweet spot. Thanks for reading!

Happy today everyone, I recently realized the error of my ways and have emigrated here from some other more "science-y" sites. I have a few cans and a few amps, I'm not a snob for any particular manufacturer or continent. I look forward every day to enjoying new music.

Been lurking here off and on and finally decided to say hi. Only been serious about my music for about a year and half so still consider myself pretty early on my journey (just learning how to read headphone charts) but have been lucky enough to try a variety of headphones with the music I like: mostly hard rock/metal & jazz. I'm still looking for that setup that unlocks classical violin for me at home as much as I love it live since I haven't been able to go to the symphony in a while.

You’ll never be disappointed going ZMF. For amps, you might want to keep an eye out for sales on the Liquid Platinum. For DACs, is there something specific about the Gustard that’s attracting you? I’d hesitate to spend $500 on a Gustard/Topping/SMSL DAC. There are cheaper Schiit options with better customer support. But if you’re going for Sabre, maybe save for the Matrix.

Hi everyone , i have recently bought a mhdt canary dac after reading favourable reviews . Without having any opportunity to listen to the dac prior purchase, i chose the most affordable model in Mhdt 's line up. I am now feeling kind of regretted as the dac had turn out performing very well in my system.I should have gone for the orchid instead Haha

Anyone have any experience with Mhdt dacs?

Hello great peoples of super best audio friends, I have been a long time lurker, but for some dumb reason never made an account. I am on headfi forum but they seem so vague and every review say how awesome everything is, everything is always the fucking best, so after being fooled buy reviews into buying m50x, and a fiio x1 iii, I became a bit angry because both products don't live up to the hype, that was 2 years ago, I had noticed your forum seems less like marketing, so here I am, hopefully I can learn plenty and maybe even contribute something

I will try as hard as I can, not to be an asshole.
I like my he4xx slightly modded, connected to my dx120's balanced out
It is in my opinion, they best I have had.....
Hoping to get some honest guidence not to waste so much money.

Hello SBAF members, like many others I've been studying the knowledge provided by this forum for some time. All the while using the knowledge gained to increase my enjoyment of this hobby as well as the quality of my gear. I've been a 2 Channel fan for many years but got into headphones when my living arrangements didn't allow for "the big system". Now I'm fortunate to have both options and thought I'd better start sharing my experiences in the hopes of giving back to this community.

I'm located in Ohio and I work in the IT industry supporting financial services for the banking industry. If you bank online or via mobile devices chances are good your transactions pass through the systems my team builds. That's the day (sometimes long day and even nights) job that supports the hobby. And my other spendy hobby, cars.

My taste in gear started life more on the warmer side (reforming basshead actually). As I've grown in the hobby, I've noticed I lean much more toward neutral. Open baffle speakers have been a game changer for me and presently color those leanings. I'm more subjective than objective, initially because I was measurement illiterate (a lot is still Greek to me). But mostly because listening to music is an escape for me...a zen place. So I will do my best to call out what I think is driven by emotion in any review I do. I'll also do my best to provide rationale for my thoughts thatvprovide useful meaning as many of you do. Most of my source material is digital, but I resurrected a vintage turntable from my youth about a year or so ago and am presently walking the path of the vinyl nut job. Oh and I'm close friends with a few of the central Ohio SBAF members and have been present for their reviews of SBAF loaners. Thats one of my main drivers for coming out of the shadows. I feel I owe this forum quite a bit for that experience. Its a truly great thing this group offers. Looking for to sharing what I've learned with this community.

Hello dear folks. I'm not equipment audiophile as I owned only a limited variety of low-end HiFi, I cannot provide advice on anything. Currently running Aegir with Dynaudio M10 speakers.
I am definitely a music audiophile, as my experience and taste with music of all genres is quite deep. I listen all genres composed in the past ~700 years except maybe rap & such. I am very picky with music and I to my taste, 99% of all music ever composed is a complete trash, and of the top 1% only a fraction can be considered genius. So most of my time I'm just shoveling through this haystack in search of few needles.

    Hi @purr1n

Given your request I'm a little confused by the wording you chose when editing your post (immediately above). Any reason for the reference to MoatsArt? I've removed the content of my post immediately above that, though, as requested.

    Cheers

    Hey all!

I just found this site to my surprise. Long time music lover and equipment hoarder until I decided one day to rely on science. Happy to be here and hope you guys are kind to newbies. :D

    Hi members of SBAF

I've been browsing this site for a few years now and finally am jumping into the fray.

I'm a lifelong pianist and have been teaching piano for almost 20 years now.
Since getting a house two years ago, I've been getting more into audio gear.

I currently have a few different setups running in my house:

    - Living Room Setup
    • Arcam A32 integrated amp
    • Canton Vento Reference 9.2 bookshelf speakers
    • Rotel RCD-855 cd player
    • RPi3B+ w/ Allo Boss DAC running moOde for streaming duties
    • Denon DP-35F for vinyl duties
    - Theater Setup (2.1)
    • Denon AVR-X3000
    • Tannoy Revolution XT6F floorstand speakers
    • SVS SB12-NSD subwoofer
    - Bedroom Setup
    • Schitt Asgard 3
    • Rosson Audio Design RAD-0
    • Chord Mojo for DAC duties
    • RPi4B running moOde for streaming
    - Computer Setup
    • Schiit Vali 2
    • Sennheiser HD 598SE/Grado sr225e
    • Schiit Modi 3
    - Bonus Setup at my GF's
    • Rotel RA-985BX
    • Monitor Audio Gold 100 bookshelf speakers
    • Roku+TV for source

As you can see, I've been very active and lucky in the used market over the past two years.
Besides using the systems for movies, shows, and gaming, I also enjoy all kinds of music ranging from classical, rap and hiphop, all kinds of rock, pop, jazz, latin music, etc. One can tell from my components list that my preference in components is as varied as my taste in music. I used to have a strong preference for bright, but over time I've come to appreciate different voicings as long as they are well done.

Looking forward to being more active in the community. Thanks for reading!

    Hey everyone,

I've been lurking for a while, and been learning a lot from what you've all done and written. I'm new to the hobby (though have had mid-fi 2.0 systems since college). Started writing a little about music for my dissertation, and, when the pandemic happened, I found a lot more time to listen to music. Some tinnitus from being a teen drummer means I probably won't ever be the most analytic listener, but happy to be here regardless!

My name is Andy Bennett. I'm technologically in the middle Cretaceous period so I need lots of advise. I'm trying to learn what equipment to buy to stream good quality music. All I have is a desk top, B&K PT5 preamp,B&K 200.2 amp, Rotel 1072 CD, desk top and flip phone. In previous posts I asked if there is anyone in the San Diego area who will let me listen to a VC and that I can't understand how Zak can sell anything without a way to audit his products. As a result of what I thought was my non-offensive posts I got 5 "dislikes" and pissed everyone off.

Regarding streamers, I suggest you check out this thread. If a Pi2AES sounds interesting there is also a loaner. If you're interested, please become a contributor and then post your interest in the loaner here. If I understand your post correctly, you'll also need a DAC to go along with a streamer.

Don't worry about the dislikes, it doesn't translate to "pissed off" in most cases. We try to keep a good signal to noise ratio and dislikes are often used to indicate "noise".

To answer your question more directly, I tried ZMF's by going to CanJam in Irvine. Considering your location that should be doable assuming CanJam exists post COVID. For now your options are either waiting until after COVID or buying and then returning or reselling if you don't like them. ZMF's do hold their value especially if you get a limited. If you don't get a limited, returns are accepted minus a restocking fee. More info here.
