    Hello.

Seeing as I actually like the Sony MDR-1A a lot (http://www.changstar.com/index.php/topic,2411.0.html), I'm interested in how these guys sound...

Now, yeah I know, they seem to be "fashion" headphones, the "reviews" I've seen from the "UK" seem to be, interesting. These sell for like $200 and I'm pretty sure price will tank a bit (as it seems to usually happen with Sony headphones). Anyway, if anyone takes a listen, would you mind posting impressions? I love being in mid-fi purgatory!

Oh my gosh, that looks like... someone at Sony decided to copy Beats.

Hahaha yessss I think they did! As long as it sounds good, I don't mind. I mean, the most blatant copy was done by Yamaha a couple of years ago (Pro 500) and I actually liked them a lot. Comfort was shitty though. These Sony look comfortable enough.

Sony fell a long time ago when they went "treble spike, more treble spikes, feed them treble!"

Their old DR-series had some pretty smooth and even sounding headphones that were not out to spike your ears. The they went MDR...

Honestly they were still doing pretty damn amazing up until the end of the R10 (early 90s). The MDR-D77 I used to have was ridiculously impressive for what it was, and their early earbuds (MDR-e282 and the like) are legendary.

Everything after that has been pretty invariably awful though. The 1978 DR-Z7 remains the best Sony headphone I've ever heard.

There have been exceptions. The R10 and CD-series were well received. I liked my CD1700 and CD900 ST a lot.

Thing is, Sony is sometimes so short-term oriented that when they have something good they tend to omit proper support and/or spare parts. It still baffles me...

    Well.
I can say that I like the MDR-1A a lot.
Yeah, they are bassy cans, but overall they are not that bad: http://www.changstar.com/index.php/topic,2411.0.html

If these, even though the style is not the best, are similar to the 1A with tamed bass, they might be a good get for the cheap-mid-fi crowd where I surf :) Also, price will probably be in the low hundred dollars or so in a few months so... still interested.

So... yeah, got a good deal on these, too bad it was the blue/green-ish color but oh well... Hopefully it gets here next week. Will play around with it for a bit and then send it to @ultrabike for measurements. ;) Maybe we can compare it against the 1R/1A.

I expect these to at least sound as good as the MDR-1A. Hopefully...
