Check the menu for those places - something might fit. Virgil's BBQ is a tourist trap in Times Square, but actually not bad. Hill County BBQ is clearly better and is one or two subway stops away on 26th street.

Go to Dinosaur BBQ for meat.

Mighty Quinn's is good as well.

Also, f**k your "I like meatball subs". You are in NYC. Push your boundaries, try new stuff. Go eat Ethiopian food. Queen of Sheba or Awash are fine. Report back afterwards.

If you go to a Korean BBQ, that will be acceptable. Barn Joo on Union Square.

Yeah we got one of the first back at find in Rochester.
    Really good though.
I'm not good at trying new foods. I don't like vegetables.

That is why God invented Indian and Ethiopian food.

Indian is good. I'll have to try some Ethiopian. Only 2 more dinners left.

    Try some 53rd and 6th.

And if you're squeamish about street food, here's what my Guyanese coworker told me this morning about the place next to work with the C rating:

"What ya eye nah see, the heart nah burn."

53rd and 6th doesn't seem like a good place to do dinner.......:( maybe late night is ok. If your parents are willing you should get some cocktails at good bars. Like angel's Share, PDT, Death and Company...can't find better cocktails around the world. I guess a safe option for meats is you can go to peter luger's steakhouse. though you have to trek out, but it is iconic...for pizza there are lots of options, but I would recommend patsy's and grimaldis. yakitori totto has excellent chicken and other yakitori. Al Di La is a reasonable italian place, but its in brooklyn. If you can handle spicy chinese food, go to Legend 72 on 72nd street. You can grab yourself a cookie at Levain bakery around the corner. The options are endless....welcome to nyc Lol.

53rd and 6th is overrated. It's only good if you're REALLY hungry and want to be cheap.

I'd stay away from the C health rated places personally :p. Too many options out there to risk it.

I go there just for the red sauce, it's serious. Better cart food is in Queens, on Steinway and Broadway for example. Where do you go?

I was kidding about the C-rated joints. Try Berimbau in the village for some awesome Brazilian food.

Since I work by Bowling Green, my favorite place was The Go Go Grill when it was still around. They're currently closed atm due to a change in ownership unfortunately. My current favorite cart is Luckyim Thai, which is pretty good thai food for just $7-9. Everything in FiDi foodwise is just really expensive otherwise :(

ai fiori for high range. Carmine's is decent, and family style if that's on your list.
Lupa Osteria Romana is very good too. Another one is Salumeria Rosi.

I'm staying in the times square area but as long as I can get there by subway relatively easy that's fine.

depends on price range. Everything is accessible in NYC. Carmine's is more american-italian food, but its right in times squre. Its not bad but cheaper. Salumeri Rosi and Lupa are more small dishes that can add up to expenses. Salumeri is right of 72nd street stop so its easy. Lupa is more downtown and requires a small walk to get there. Ai fiori is probably the most expensive, but you can just walk there also. I feel all italian food in New York is overpriced....compared to italy. I mean pasta's raw ingredients are not that expensive Lol. Anyhow those are the ones I've been to that are decent. Been to a lot of bad ones.

@spwath etal. I can see now why so many people love NYC. The food. Amazing choices. Maybe someday I’ll actually make it there. Right. And The Beatles will be getting back together, all four.

Hey @spwath if you are ever in the Sacramento suburbs there are a couple of Arbies I can recommend. And for Italian we have a bunch of Little Cesar’s. You want to go upscale? We have a Macaroni Grill! French? Mimi’s. Chain city baby, chain city.

Enjoy you trip. We’ll talk tubes when you get back.
