    Hello,

Hope I will find someone to help me, I have been looking for answers for quite some time everywhere but no one could really answer...
I am looking for my Xmas gift and would like a headphone with noice cancelling, quite of nomad headphone for travel.
I am thinking of the sony wf-1000xm3 BUT I do not want to activate bluetooth. Why ? Because pairing bluetooth is a pain as I unactivate it from time to time (airplane, public transports, etc...), bluetooth has raised some health concerns in the science media and bluetooth is less secure, drops the phone battery and is too much of buttons to push before enjoying my music.
Well, let's say my opinion of course, goal here is not to debate around Bluetooth Yes/no :)

    Then my questions :
    - Can I disactivate the BT on such a headphone and use cable jack only ?
    - Can I activate the Noise Cancellation if BT is off ?

If this is not possible to have cable + NC, any headphone cable only with Noise cancellation I should consider ?

    Thank you.

    Bose QuietComfort 25.

But I honestly don't care about the BT health and phone concerns, and might get the QuietComfort 35 II instead.

A friend of mine has the 35 IIs, and they are awesome.

Well, I knew already there would be some discussions raised about this heath disc.
Regardless, let's suppose you are in the plane and they ask you to not use the BT during take off but you want to use noise cancelling, can you disable BT only and keep NC on with the QC35 II ? Same question for the Sony WF-1000XM3.

Out of those three "flight" headphones, which one should I consider :
    QC35II
    WF-1000XM3
    QC25

    Given the fact that :
    - I have a very old QC and the Bose sound if kind of "weak" on those.
    - I look for option to get this NC On but BT Off
    - With of course very nice NC performance

    Thank you.

Only the Bose NC 700 lets you switch “off” Bluetooth with a button press. The rest remain disconnected and maybe turn off pairing mode after a timeout. All of them can be used wired or silently with noise canceling. The QC 35 switches off Bluetooth if you plug in the cable.

The answer is yes, certainly for Bose and Sony models, and probably true for most other brands as well. When you plug in a cable, BT becomes disconnected and noise cancelling is still available. Make sure that the headphone is powered on (not just passively driven by the cable) so that its noise cancellation circuit can work.

The PSB M4U2 is a wired noise cancelling headphone that is pretty good, and you can probably find it for cheap. The noise cancelling on the Sony is much better though. I have both and prefer the Sony, but I've only used the Sony wired once. I only recommend the PSB if you don't want Bluetooth at all.

The sony sounds better wired than through BT (no surprise).

I have a QC25 and the sony. The QC 25 is very close, but not quite as good, noise cancelling wise. Sound is better on the sony, but both are flawed in very different ways. The QC 25 weighs less.

If I was worried about BT, i would get the QC 25 which is easy to find used pretty cheaply. They never ask anyone to deactivate the bluetooth headphones on any US or Europe flight I have been on. Tons of sony and bose users are obviously continuing to use their BT headphones. They just ask you to put your phone on flight mode, but you can still use BT and wifi.

I had the AKG N90Q for a while, it was an odd beast in being a wired noise cancelling headphone which was too bulky and heavy to be a good travel headphone. Yet noise cancelling isn't really necessary for home use. And they had the heaviest case I have ever had to lift (though they did have a nice leather sandwich bag for daily use. Quite impressive tech though.
