Another good way to reduce audio reflections is apparently to remove all speakers from the room, which you seem to have implemented. Extreme, but I respect it.

    :p

(This setup is very tidy but still inviting. Nice.)

One of these days I’ll rejoin the BWC! Can’t wait to use the Marantz 2270 again.

I'm interested in this too. @SoupRKnowva, how are you liking the Uplift so far?

I coulda sworn I had responded to your message fraggler, sorry about that.

To answer you both, I didn't really move from one to the other. I am still using the Jarvis, its just my work desk now, and the Uplift is my personal desk. Now that I'm in a bigger place I wanted to get something bigger, and separating out work from fun was something I'd wanted to do for a while.

As for a comparison, I really like them both. I prefer the slightly thinner bamboo top on the Jarvis vs the Uplift but they are both nice desk tops. I had read that the uplift was more stable, which I don't really think is true, they are both about as stable as a standing desk gets right now.

So about to pull the trigger on one of these. I'd like to save a bit of cash and go with the Jarvis, but do value stability since I will be leather working on the same table (pounding irons into leather, setting rivets, etc.). So you think that both are roughly as stable? If you pounded or leaned on one vs the other, do they respond basically the same? While my IKEA Bekant has held up well, there is definitely some front to back wobble when I start using a hammer.

I would say even pounding on them with a fist on the front lip they’re both about the same for stability. I just went it did it on them both haha

I will have pictures once I do some more organizing, but I got a Fully Jarvis frame in yesterday and added a 1.5" Hevea butcherblock top. At full height, I am not sure how much sturdier the frame is from my OG Ikea Bekant, but it definitely stops shaking much more quickly. Could be the density of the top compared to the old one. Either way, I did get a lot more damping and stability that I was looking for as a part time crafting desk, so happy with the purchase. It feels good knowing that I could lift all my gear and myself if needed now.

Nope, not really, but it does a nice job of giving that effect. It's a Lian Li Strimer, mine's somewhat ruined as the Strimer is supposed to start from the top to the GPU, as you can see, mine's from the bottom to the GPU. The lit part is actually fiber optic cables/tubes, I had to mod it and in the process, messed up the the supplied dual 8pin cables, that's why they looked uneven.

I went 49" 32:9 a couple of years back, mine's the lower res version at 3840x1080. It's good enough for me, and not too hard on the GPU, though I've pre-ordered an XFX Speedster MERC319 RX 6900XT to replace my Sapphire Nitro+ RX 6800. Here's a recent shot of my battle-station....I've swapped that cheap mech KB with a Topre RealForce 103U 55G (fitted with yellow PBT keycaps), and have also swapped my regular RGB mouse with an RGC vertical mouse.

About as tidy as it will ever be:
This is my everything room/closet. I work from home, do leathercraft, play games, and listen to music. The silly pattern of foam and felt were attempts at killing echoes/reverb for Zoom/Meets calls and are reasonably effective. I gave up trying to get speakers to sound good in the room, so my Adcom is now hooked up to my Motu M2 and the speakers (DIY Carmody S2000s) are just for calls and background music/Youtube. On the rack to the right is the rest of the gear (see sig) including a borrowed Bachelor. Bose QC15s are still used when people have the audacity to actually call my phone (haven't found a bluetooth set yet that has an acceptable mic). The desk is a recently built Jarvis sit/stand desk with a butcher block top that I got locally. Really, really nice desk for under $600 all in. I do need a larger cutting mat still. Let me know if you have questions about anything you see.

Here's my (albeit messy) area. The stand-up desk is a Fully Jarvis frame and a $100 72" x 30" top from OfficeMax. It works very well. The Dell monitor have KVM built-in, so I can run the MBP and Ubutu server on one, and by Hackintosh and new Windows PC on another one.

Figure this would be a good thread to ask...

Any good office or gaming chair recommendations? I've been eyeing the Shaq stuff at Office Max. Not cheap, but not expensive either.

Herman Miller Aeron is kind of the default recommendation. They're our new default at my office, and my buddy who works at Facebook said it's their default as well. You can often find used on FB Marketplace, etc. from office liquidations and the like. There are three sizes. I'm almost 6'4" but skinny and didn't find the Aeron to be deep enough. You can find measurement guides online to help you determine what chair dimensions you'll need.

For my home office, I ended up with the Oak Hollow Aloria with a headrest and have been happy with it: https://oakhollowfurniture.com/collections/aloria-office-chair/products/aloria-leather-headrest. Would certainly only recommend over the standard recommendations if you're tall.

Definitely try to sit in whatever you plan to buy and make sure it has adjustable lumbar support, depth, and arm rest (height, depth, angle).

There is another thread specifically on chairs, but it hasn't been active in a while. I would look for an office liquidator and test out chairs. I love the idea of Aerons (and my GF has one in her home office), but because I am on the heavier side, the plastic frame holding the mesh digs into my thighs and is uncomfortable. My GF, who is not heavy like me still prefers actual cushions to the mesh as well, but we need the Aeron to die before we can justify replacing it. The Steelcase Leap V2 is probably the number 2 to the Aeron in ubiquity as a task chair and is what I ended up with. I only paid $250 for mine from a liquidator and it is worlds better than any branded gaming chair (outside of the Logitech Embody mashup maybe). Those plush executive chairs that you can find everywhere are also crap for long term use. The Markus from IKEA had an incredibly nice bottom cushion but not quite enough adjustments all around.

I went through this search months ago while looking for a new chair for WFH and narrowed the contenders down to these few.

If you like the gamer chair esthetic:
    • Secret Labs Omega or Titan depending on your body size and if you like to sit cross legged from time to time. A couple of my coworkers bought them so I was able to get it a test. Nicely built and has a firm, but comfortable seat.

If you don't mind the office chair esthetic:
    • Staples Hyken: ergonomic mesh chair, reasonably priced
    • Steelcase Leap v2: extremely expensive, highly adjustable ergonomic chair. 12 year warranty. If you don't mind a refurbished chair you can snag one at a big discount from Crandall Office Furniture (https://www.crandalloffice.com/). I personally settled on this chair and I love it. I'm able to sit cross legged on it no problem.
