Personal Loaner: ECP Walnut X.3 DAC (US only)

Aman has already tapped out... he doesn't want it back again. Three power supplies (2 brands) is beyond statistical norms, so something definitely seems to be up. When my power supply blew, I had the walnut at the office for a day to try it with a different amp. My office has horrible quality power (dc offset and general noise), so everything runs thru an Emotiva CMx2 for the DC offset and an isolation transformer to clean up the noise. I haven't had an equipment problem their since (been a couple years now)... so I just chalked it up to bad juju on the power supply.

I don't know what Aman's power quality situation is... but that would be 2 different brands at his place if the triad is indeed bad. Seems like something is up with either the power, or the walnut interacting with something possibly power related... but I'm just conjecturing based on no real knowledge or understanding of what goes on inside that beautiful wood/anodized aluminum box.

For now, lets wait on @TomB to see what's up. We can tentatively move the east coast list onto the end of the west coast. If mine gets @TomB 's seal of approval, then maybe mine goes directly to @atomicbob since I suspect the measurement suite might be an extended visit anyway... this way maybe both end at the same time.

 

I'm down for whatever. Once Tom looks at yours, PM me and we'll figure out what is best for everyone.

Comment: In fact, this thing arrived a couple of days earlier but I had to sort out account issues on the package locker system, which took extra days.

 

You are correct, you have @Erroneous 's unit. Mine is about to ship back from @TomB. I'm going to listen to it for about a week and then will ask @atomicbob if he wants me to ship it to him for measurements.

Received @dasman66 personal loaner today. Will unbox later this weekend and begin warmup by listening with T4.

 

Walnut has arrived safe and sound. I know its from @Erroneous because I now have packaging peanuts across the room trying to evade my capture!

 

i know im super late to the party, but is it possible to get a listen on this? i’m in LA and i hear this thing is going to be in the west coast soon? super curious to see how it sounds on my zmf pendant & jot 2

Thanks to the kindness of the sbaf friends & @Erroneous, the X3 has safely made a pitstop to me today. Will be listening & providing impressions before shipping it back to @Ksorota next monday

 

Loaner has completed. Many thanks to @dasman66 for volunteering to add his DAC to the tour. You're a great dude. Also a big ol' thank you to everyone who signed up for the tour. I wanted to get the word out about this really nice DAC and thanks to the cooperation of a bunch of music-minded folks that mission was accomplished.

I think Doug and Tom have collaborated on yet another great piece of audio gear, and I hope they'll continue to bring us more amazing ways to heighten our enjoyment of the music we love!

 

That was great of both of you to part with your personal units for so long!

I deeply enjoyed my time with it and will be on the lookout if they ever go for sale!
