Saying goodbye to a beloved furry companion is one of the more difficult of life's challenges. My condolences @ButtUglyJeff and your family.

I'm extremely sorry to hear that @ButtUglyJeff. I will be beyond heartbroken when the time comes to say goodbye to my beagle, Otis. We had to take him to live with my father-in-law in Michigan because of his severe separation anxiety and my wife and I both work 8-5 mon-fri. I miss him terribly and hes only 5 hours away. He's turning 11 this week.

There's nothing that can be said that makes that easier to deal with, but my condolences is all I have to offer.

Thanks everyone for the kind words. Luckily she wasn't our only dog, just our senior member of the pack. The rest of our pack has really rallied around my wife, as she's have the hardest time. She was a great companion to all my kids...

Technically not my pet, but one of our foster cats popped out these three future PITA's a week ago. The black one was an orphan that was found a couple weeks ago and had been bottlefed for a week. Little guy is a player and knew exactly what to do when confronted with a nipple.

Lots to like in this thread! And condolences to all those who have lost their furry friends.

Thank you for doing that. I get attached too easily and could never foster myself, but have greatest respect for the people who do.

Here is my cat I took in as a starving skinny stray a few years back. Yes buddy, there are spiders in the basement...

Not so starving anymore. Hanging out on a server, it's the warmest place in the house (she hasn't discovered the Vidar yet)...

Yeah, my wife and I are foster failures twice over. Special people are those who can keep bring fosters in to their homes, and let them move on to forever home, so they can bring in more fosters...

We've only fostered a couple of times...always with a mother cat. It is no easy task, that's for sure. If there's an afterlife, and that doesn't get you in, I don't know if I want to go.

My respect goes out to anyone that give shelter to strays or otherwise unwanted animals. It's bittersweet having fosters leave, but better to keep the door revolving and it's everyone that want to give these animals a chance that make that happen. Mad love yo.

Really sorry to hear about your dog Jeff. It’s tough. We lost both of our Doxies and one of our cats in the last 8 months. All 18. The only downside to having fury friends.

At my age, this is a downside to human friends as well.

Unfortunately that has started with me as well. My Dad always said “better to be a guest at a funeral than to be the host” !

I've always been a huge dog guy. Unfortunately, my Fiancé is allergic so, no dogs for me. Well, that was until recently. When my mom passed, she rescued a Chihuahua, and for some reason my girls allergies weren't effected by him, so we adopted him. He was such a cute little guy too, the most loving lil friend ever. We decided to rescue another chihuahua so he'd have a friend. Anyway, a few months ago he passed as well. Really broke my heart, all over again. We both took it hard. We wanted another dog so Betty, our other chi would have a friend, so we rescued another dog. A Chiweenie. She's really beautiful and we were able to adopt her as a puppy. She bothers my girls allergies ever so slightly, but it's tolerable. She's a great dog, so loving and playful.

Really feel bad for Betty though as she had neglect or some sort of abuse in her life. We've had her for 6 months or so now and she's finally coming out of her shell. She was actually playing with a toy, first time ever about 3 weeks ago. Really made us both overwhelmed with happiness. 20180731_224115.jpg

That's Betty, chewing on a toy. She doesn't have many teeth left either, we had to have surgery on her mouth to get her healthy. Poor girl, only 6,and she has about 5 or 6 teeth left.

Here's Zelda (my girl is a video game freak). She's really beautiful, has awesome coloring.

She loves digging and is a little mush too.

Lol. Yes, I definitely was. Prior to these little guys I always had big dogs. Rotties, Dobies, and once had a French mastiff. I haven't had dogs in 6 years prior to these little guys, which really, really sucked. I've always had dogs, since as long as I could remember. So, not having them really was sad for me. Finding dogs that my girl isn't allergic to was a huge blessing. Plus, we rescued 3 dogs recently so we did a beautiful thing. Ironically, even if I had a choice, I would definitely have a Chihuahua now too. They are such incredible lil characters with huge personalities. Nothing like I thought they were, which was nasty lil yappers. They are such loveable lil family members now. I do miss having a rottie, for sure, as they were my favorite dogs ever. Chihuahuas are now a very close second.

Also a chihuahua fan. It takes an extra secure man to say this, ha!

Contra stereotypes about them, I've found there's a wide array of different personalities to be found among the breed (neurotic to super chill). Used to have a chihuahua and my parents have two. They're all great dogs each with very different personalities. Depending on how well they're trained/cared for, my experience is that they're a really fun, smart, and loyal breed. Probably will end up taking my parents' dogs if they ever retire and travel like they've always hoped.
