The orchestral version of the main overland theme (when walking around in the main map) of FF7 (starts at 54:51):

Speaking of GoW: Blood and Metal, I really dig the acoustic track Opeth put on there. Kinda weird song in some ways, actually. (Oh wow, look, Hands liking an Opeth song! I had no idea!)

I'll be a good conformist and say my favorite game OST is FF7's. Gotta love the boss battle music! Black Mages version of it is sick.

Shameless, repetitive plug, but anyone that likes Uematsu's The Black Mages, specifically the first album, might also like what Opeth did with "Pale Communion."

My favorite videogame OST of all time is the Xenogears OST, by Yasunori Mitsuda (also made Chrono Cross and Chrono Trigger OSTs) . Listening to it own its own is great, but you don't truly appreciate the tracks until you play the game and associate the themes with the emotions and scenes.

Some of my favorites from the OST:

My second favorite would be Xenosaga III OST by Yuki Kajiura (famous for her anime osts).

Xenogears was a great game until Disc 2. I have no idea what they were thinking but unfortunately disc 2 ruined it for me.

Xenogears was my favorite game for PS1 and Xenosaga III was my favorite for PS2. I'm actually playing through XS3 right now haha.

What happened to XG was that they simply just ran out of budget and time for the game. The creators wanted to do so much more with the game, and you can tell if you've ever taken a look at the Xenogears Perfect Works. So instead of leaving an unfinished game, they decided to just narrate the storyline out instead of letting you play through it completely. I would have loved to have played through disc 2 the same way wask disc 1 but unfortunately that will never happen.

The same thing happened to Xenosaga, which is a spiritual prequel to Xenogears. The series was supposed to be 5 games long but due to budget and lack of interest in the series as a whole by the public, Xenosaga III basically covers the story of what was supposed to be the 3rd, 4th, and 5th game in the series. Despite that, the pacing is very well done and provides a very satisfying ending to the trilogy.

Yah i know abotu the story behind it and yes Xenosaga was the game Square seemed to not fully support (probably because it didn't have the words final or fantasy attached).

It's really sad too because Xenoblade Chronicles was rated really well but it's not a money maker by any means (monolith software though).

I wish I could just post one song but this whole album just blew me away. Definitely one of my favorite soundtracks of all time now. If I had to pick one track as my favorite I think it would be Cleric Beast.

Can't have a video game music thread without mentioning Blue Dragon, one of the most underrated JRPGs of all time. Total class game.

    Listen to the intro:
    youtu.be/FRTM2oQipjI?t=1

And then listen to the absolutely majestic outro:
    youtu.be/FRTM2oQipjI?t=7477

That is some A+ composing by any standard. First time I heard it at the end of the game I actually applauded to an empty room cause it was that exceptional.

The stuff in the middle is equally superb.

Edit: The board software badly messes up links to exact times so you gotta copy/paste... sorry!

Second shout out goes to what IMO is the greatest game OST of all time:

Music is stupid good considering this was produced in the mid-late 90s with nothing but midi.
