Thank you, I can recommend some Mike Oldfield and Bob James.
It's pretty good to see a couple of prog's aficianados. I came from rock to metal to prog to djent (currently). But I was surprised not seeing any Tool in all those links (I missed it ?), like, Aenima is such a piece dude : .
Currently I like a lot of djent bands as I said and Polaris's very good Hands, I did enjoyed seeing them in live too, pretty good band overall. I'll add Animals as Leaders which definetly needs to be named somehow because the guitar's exploration is huge .
I really dig Tool - wish they would hurry up and release their next album
I'm not part of groups asking for a band to hurry to release a new album because I believe creation is a long time process, but Tool is just killing its fan's base by not releasing anything ^^.
I don't think Tool is killing their fans, I think it is making them more loyal and gives them something to look forward too. Besides, it isn't necessarily TOOL's fault for not releasing an album sooner, lots of legal issues have been in their way for a few years now.
Too bad about the legal issues. This track seems a good response
Tool is many things. Progressive without a doubt.
well said Deep Funk
Also introduced us to Gavin Harrison, one of the best drummers I've heard (Porcupine Tree and his other solo/collab).
An Aussie band who has evolved more into Prog Rock recently, Karnivool, specifically their album "Sound Awake". Many comparisons to Tool but still uniquely enjoyable.
Great album compromised by terrible production (heavily compressed), still looking for a decent concert recording of them.
I know about the Tool's legal issues and it's unfortunate. I just wish they could release some stuff because I think they are also frustrated not doing so.
Dream Theater has moments of brilliance...
lol I just posted that in the "what are you listening to now" thread
Thank you, now I have had my dose of Prog, fresh coffee and the Pixies helped me to find the fish. Yes this all makes sense...
nothing else for me to do at 5 A.M and being sick - Hey Deep Funk, have you seen the "Breaking the Fourth Wall" DVD/Blu-Ray By Dream Theater? I know you may not be a huge DT fan, but that is an awesome live concert!
I plan on making a video of me playing this on guitar and posting it here
Although I can't deny the fact that Dream Theater was a milestone in my music journey (that still goes on) and how they influenced my music tastes, I can't help thinking now that what they make is just too much. I wish they could longer atmomsphere they make. They change a lot of tonalities in their song and it gives me the feeling of something disjointed.
Don't get me wrong, they are awesome technicians and perform everything just write. But my tastes evolved and I wish they could empase a little more the atmosphere of their song, by not changing so many times ^^.
@Valolilol - their new album is comming out in January 2016 - from what I have read it is going to be a second concept album. Maybe you might dig it. They even have sides (guilds) You can join. The great Northern Empire and Ravenskill. I am still not too sure what that is about yet, but it may indicate a 2 CD disc set.

Oh yeah thank you for this answer, that's really interesting. I'll gid it a least a bit to check what they've done, because I Octavarium was a very good concept album for me .
