I searched for references to this question above but found none, hence the new thread. I have lost my thread creation virginity at SBAF here and hope mods are ok with it.

I'm curious what the folks here think about Queen touring with Lambert? The critics of yesterday's Oscars opening act seem to feel VERY strongly about it which surprises me somewhat.

I for one am a fan... There is no substitute for Freddie as a front man, but I can't think of another vocalist that would be a better fit for the job, Adam can SING. The Queen catalog should be heard live in arenas and stadiums, Freddie is not with us but his music can live forever. The fact that they've stayed away from collaborating on any new music together is enough for me to not call them out for tarnishing the legacy of this very unique band.

Anyone here have strong feelings one way or the other?

If the guys in the band are okay with it, then it doesn't seem like we have any right to argue.

I dislike how Adam sings. I recognize his talent, but he has an overpronounced vibrato thing going on that irks me. Too "look at me singing everyone!" - doesn't fit with rock. Also, Queen is one of my all time favorite bands, so I am torn. On the one hand, Freddie moved me like few others and I don't think anyone can or want anyone to try to fill his shoes. On the other hand, I love Queen and if they want to continue to perform and make money til they drop, go for it. So, good for all parties involved, I hate it and won't listen to it.

Could care less. Heck, Journey could hire a Filipino dude that sounded like a vivid mode version of Steve Perry, and the world would keep turning.

I think similarly to @fraggler in that Adam can sing, but he always sounds like he's singing a show tune version of whatever song he sings. I thought that Queen should have signed the guy in the video below, he went viral like 8 years ago and he kills "Somebody To Love".

I love Queen, liked Adam on whatever TV contest he was on (was it American Idol?) but haven't followed him since. Ring of Fire was awesome. Last thing I really heard was "I'm Here for Your Entertainment" and thought it was a fun song, didn't know he was still active.

Probably won't check the new music out, but neither will I go out of my way to change channels if I happen across it.

HAHAHAHAHAHA. It's been a very stressful few days and this made me choke laughing, wasn't even drinking anything this time.

Interesting, according to the interwebs, this guy did some vocal work for the recent Bohemian Rhapsody movie. Definitely one of the best Freddie sounding singers I have heard.

Ultimately I think they were strategically trying to stay away from direct Mercury comparisons and just get somebody different but with the same gusto as it were. Which makes sense as a way of taking pressure off the person who got the gig. You can hate Lambert but not because he's doing "not quite Freddy Mercury". The guy in the video probably would've just been seen as a cheap impersonator because fans are weird like that. It also probably would've been weird touring with him as being too close to your old band mate who died tragically. Not saying their decision to pass on this guy was right, just speculating on what their logic may have been.

I’ve seen Queen + Adam Lambert twice. The wife likes Adam, I like Queen, and appreciate Adam’s talent. He’s a good front man for Queen, and they seem to get along. I’ve enjoyed both shows.

    I 1/2 care.

I like Queen & their music, so I do root for them. (though my respect for them did dive a notch or two with their support of the movie).

I wouldn't turn down a free ticket, but I sure ain't paying those prices (I rarely go to larger big concerts/venues at all really).

If they put out some good new music, I'll get it. If not, my life won't change.

I'm with you on that point... Freddie's solo project was a key "conflict" within the movie but not once did Taylor's solo project ever come up as even a retort from Freddie. Likewise, while I understand that Freddie's typical rock star excesses were "toned down" WRT the depiction on screen, I have a problem with how by comparison the other band members were depicted as relative choir boys... just an electrical engineer, dentist and an astrophysicist who have stable family lives but otherwise moonlight in one of the world's biggest bands. It just feels a bit self serving... and this is before getting into the real controversial stuff... I loved the movie as entertainment but do have mixed feelings otherwise.

The movie wasnt bad per se, but it was almost worse than bad in that it was safe, inoffensive and didn't have anything to say. Just made by committee vanilla filmmaking Oscar bait. I'm sure the Bryan Singer mess had alot to do with how it turned out.

I honestly would rather have seen Sash Baron Cohen's version which was rejected by the studio as being too racy if I remember correctly.
