According to EnjoyTheMusic, Samsung will buy Harmon, most for its automotive stuff.

Harman brands include JBL, Harman Kardon, Mark Levinson, AKG, Lexicon, Infinity, and Revel

Will be interesting to see if they also use JBL to compete with Beats.

RIP Harman/JBL. Samsung will most likely "kill" the brand. :(

Because...? Apple seems to be killing it in the personal audio space. Not that fast following is a great strategy, but why would they kill these prominent brands?

Well from exploding Samsung Note 7s, to exploding Samsung Washing Machines.. You get my picture?

Though on a serious note, it has always been the case where a big Multinational conglomerate buys over a smaller company, it tends to water-down/destroy the technology advantage. Like when Microsoft bought Nokia and etc.. The worst I known was when Creative bought over Aureal, EMU and Cambridge Soundworks or when Nvidia bought over 3DFX and etc.

If it helps, Lee's Samsung doesn't really have a habit of killing or "killing" their bought brands, unlike, say, Google.
Anyway, Samsung's been lacking in the audio department for a while now, and I know that company acquisitions don't happen overnight, but there's something about the timing that it makes me think that buying Harman might actually be a publicity move on their behalf to get anything reliable and new under the Samsung umbrella after the latest exploding fiasco.

I just hope Samsung give additional funding to Olive and the other researchers at Harman.

hey, they going to be in the car big time. I shudder to think about the first Samsung amp in the crunch that catches fire.

Hopefully it will improve the audio on their cell phones... I'd take a chance. Buy a new Note 8,hopefully it sounds better, or explodes on my leg and i become a millionaire. Win win.

Car audio brands are mostly labeling arrangements. The Harman Audio for automotive started when Harman bought Becker and for a while it was Harman Becker. The Burmester Porsche stuff is made by someone else, Burmester does some DSP and tuning but someone else makes the equipment. Audi is the same with the B&Os in Audis, where another manufacturer makes the head unit, and another company the amps. Just another move towards conglomeratehood.

If you have to panic, get a K701 or K7xx-series, modifiy it and you can have one of the best AKGs for little money.

Last time I auditioned a K701 I asked for some Metal. I was not disappointed...
