So if I have ever messed with anybody anywhere I shouldn't use this forum? Do you do a casual dox on everybody that joins your forum? Maybe you should include a Government ID field in the sign-up form, so you can run a background check too? This is fucked. Gauge your members on their behavior on your forum. Don't police the internet.

Based on this thread "policing the internet" was never the intention. Some person decided to troll a little and suspicion was raised. People started digging and "Houston, we have a problem" followed. Behaviour was the first thing that was gauged.

When someone likes to troll others, trash talk others fine. But when traces are left and the trolling/trash talking continues well the internet is like a dirty slate full of evidence. The moderators witnessed the behaviour, found traces of similar behaviour and made some checks.

The internet is a shared platform for websites, chats, forums etcetera. When you spread filth for all to see it is a matter of time before you are caught.

"Don't police the internet" makes no sense. The troll apparently left so many traces that he or she could not be ignored or unseen. Welcome to reality...

It's not even "the Internet", it's just Massdrop. A huge proportion of SBAF members must check out Massdrop on a regular basis.

This is like complaining that you're not welcome at a kebab shop after you repeatedly visit the pub right next door and vomit all over their doorstep every night.

^ That's a bit of a UK-specific analogy, I'm not sure how culturally tied-together kebab shops and pubs are in North America, but I trust the idea gets through. Perhaps Canada does poutine shops.

I don't understand the poster who joins a forum just to chastise the membership. They are so delusional that they think what they write will actually matter to people on said forum. Good luck with that! All they are good for is comic relief...and this poster was't even funny.

I can see that you just joined SBAF today with a new account, and instead of starting with a friendly post to introduce yourself, your first post had to be an angry rant about how we banned a random troll who clearly had it coming toward him (good riddance), and rudely telling of all us who've been around here a long time what do. What a terrific way to get off the wrong foot, if not arouse suspicion. Maybe we should do an IP check for membership because of people like you.

Anyway, welcome to SBAF. We just don't take kindly to strangers with a clearly bad history that would pose more harm than good on this community. And for the record, we didn't ban the troll outright; when presented with his crimes, instead of owning up to it like a man he decided to lie--a hilariously stupid lie no one would believe--about how that wasn't him, and later when Marvey, who's too kind for his own good, decided to give him a second, I mean a third chance, instead of lurking quietly like he said he would, he continued to be a wise guy and make dick moves and passive-aggressive behaviors in other threads.

There is a Japanese proverb 仏の顔も三度まで, which roughly translates into: slap Buddha's face three times, not even he would be so merciful.

Don't like the way we roll? Thankfully no one forced you to join SBAF, and if you're inclined to look for valuable information in other websites run by admins with an OCD for political correctness, then don't let the door hit you on your way out.

SBAF also has loaner programs with expensive kit, and other stuff behind the scenes that would never work without a lot of mutual trust etc. As Marv would say, this site is just a public front for the real secret society. Bruce Wayne vs Batman. Peter Parker vs Spiderman. You get the picture.

Nice try. If you think your behavior on the 'net will not be searched through and judged by others you're delusional. Job interviews, dates, basically anytime someone wants to know more about you will result in a search.

D2Girls also started the whole Yggdrasil analogue board rumor on Head-Fi at the Yggdrasil impressions thread page 390. He is a pathological liar so I am glad he got caught quickly.

This isn't even an online thing. People talk. If you behave badly, and you live in a small town - or work in a small industry - word will get around sooner or later. The internet just makes such background checks way easier.

If people get into trouble now for being trolls or shitheads of yore, then I’m chopped and screwed for sure.

Back in the days of LiveJournal I belonged to a little group called TheFuckYouCrew, and our sole purpose was to [somehow] get ppl to submit top 20 lists of their favorite music artists. At which point we’d rip them several new holes and mock all their favorite bands. Pretty petty shit huh?

And yet there was no end to the applicants back in the day...

Starting with no even being a girls. Unforgivable.

As in signed up again. Whether it is not-even-girls or some other person that feels cause to have a grudge, my bet is that this is another ex-member.

Come on guys, even if it's the same person, if they're at their best behavior, who cares? We can't stop someone from using another handle and create a new account anyway; unless we make the sign-up process hard for everybody. At best we can identify & isolate a troll and move on. If everyone's focussing on a troll (including myself) hasn't the troll already won?

I was nice to D2 via PM since I gave them the benefit of the doubt and did commiserate somewhat. If this WAS their intent, though, then they're a categorically unpleasant poopyhead.

Arun, you are relatively new here. SBAF has had problems with such behavior before and it always ends up in banning the said person. This becomes tiring pretty quickly. We are pretty good at pattern recognition and cutting them off at the pass, if you will. Promises of good behavior have rarely, if ever, panned out.

What is the troll recidivism rate? I'm guessing quite high.

Sure, I am new here and definitely haven't had the time to observe patterns here. I agree these promises aren't worth much taking the user's history as context. Given that, wouldn't it be better to lock the thread once the OP is correctly identified as a troll and the rest of the thread is reasonably light in content in the interest of reducing noise? Only thing I will miss out is going through a bunch of hilarious comments :) ( I will miss that a lot though! )

P.S. Wish you a Happy Diwali!

I can't say for certain but it seems suspicious. Since i have an Yggdrasil for sale this pisses me off even more.
