A perfectly working CD player has a problem because the DAC its connected to clicks incessantly during pause?

I don't get it. There's nothing wrong with the CD player.

I don’t think that’s what they mean. It sounds like certain CD players communicate differently with the Gungnir Multibit when on pause. Could someone with more knowledge chime in here?

Agree. I've used my Gungnir Multibit with 3 different players across a spectrum of price points and transport topologies and it's the same with all three. May be the case that the Gungnir Multibit is responding to a pause in the data stream, but it doesn't happen, ever, via my renderer.

    From Schiit's website: http://www.schiit.com/guides/dac-problems

    Clicking When Changing Sample Rates/Pausing/Etc.

    1. It’s totally normal for our Bifrost and Gungnir DACs to click (mechanically, from the chassis) during normal operation. That’s the muting relay, doing its job. It clicks whenever the SPDIF datastream is interrupted.

    2. If it’s clicking excessively on a Mac or PC, you can reduce it by routing system sounds to the speaker on a Mac, rather than to the Schiit USB Audio Device output. On a PC, you can set system sounds to "no sounds." In both cases, using USB largely eliminates it.

    3. If it’s clicking excessively on a CD transport when in pause, the CD transport has a cycling interruption in the datastream. There’s no real fix for this, except getting another CD transport. It won’t hurt the Bifrost or Gungnir, though—the relays are rated for several million cycles.

Thanks to threads like this I just ordered a Gungnir Multibit. Supposed to ship next week. I will report my findings as well.

Has anyone been able to tell whether Gungnir Multibit has been silently upgraded to Analog 2 yet (assuming it’s coming)?

This has been discussed ad nauseum elsewhere. If Schiit will not confirm or deny, and they have not said anything, unless they have told the sbaf nrc, who also haven't said anything, the only way to know would be to lift the lid of a known pre Yggdrasil update Gungnir Multibit and a recent one and actually eyeball the analog stages of both.

There's no reason to open up an old one, just a new one. The image of the old analog board is all over the web.

This is exactly what I was wondering. Has anyone opened the lid and compared? Knowing of course that I believe this may void your warranty. Also there’s those damn LEDs, so likely not something most folks will want to do. So I’m not recommending it, just wondering if anyone’s done it yet.

Not to my knowledge. I'll bet the nrc knows something though.

This. It actually stands for nut rubbing club. It's a term I use to refer to any ruling inner circle, cabal, etc. Not meant to be disrespectful, well... you know.

Maybe my outer circle is further out than even I thought it was, but I have neither heard nor seen anything definitive, just a lot of unsupported (as far as I know) assertions and assumptions. Would you like to offer some support to them?

There are some pictures of a recent Gungnir Multibit that was opened up somewhere around here, and it'll show you enough. Sorry to be cryptic, but that's all I will say about that.

Enough would be something that would tell me what I spent $1300 on without having to take the damn thing apart. I don't get all the secrecy tbh. I am aware of the hoo ha caused by the Yggdrasil analog update but seriously? Don't post it on my account. Feel like a mushroom, kept in the dark and fed bullshit. I guess it's on a need to know basis and I don't. f**k it.

If someone has posted up pictures then why are we still playing silly games?
