Those cards are so tiny, I doubt it could be done unless they made their own multibit DAC chips or something.

Yes PRT does wonders to the headstage, I wouldn't listen to the Jot without it now. And it makes it relatively less u-shaped imo.

Any comments on how the Jot preforms as a pre amp for a power amp/speakers?

    Thanks!

Not good. It makes your speakers very forward sounding with a collapsed soundstage.

This aspect actually works well for watching / editing movies on a screen between powered monitors, especially the DSP / Class D ones. New Kirk's and apeshit Spock's voices, and spaceship engine rumbles sounded like they were coming from the screen with the JBL monitors, which they should.

On different topic, after using the Mojo as a Jot DAC for the last six weeks (for brain burn-in), I just switched to the Modi Multibit, but also added the Eitr in front of it (I'd previously heard the Modi Multibit but since I already had the Mojo decided to run with it for awhile). The Jot REALLY improved things with the HD600s over the Mojo itself.

As a dotard, by adding the Jot here's the thing: the Tidal HiFi (ex mode) > Mojo > Jot > HD600 or TH-X00 sounded really good - I felt like I finally had that really good set-up that gave me the get-lost-in-the-music feeling. I find the Jot / HD600 to be a great pairing (much better than Mojo/HD600) [ insert descriptive language I don't have here ] and I like the HD600 better than the 650.

Now granted I'm only about 3 hours into the Eitr > Modi Multibit > jot > HD600 but holy shivers! I'd never gotten the emotional WHOA feeling I've occasionally read about. On this new set up it's not always, but here and there on some of the music I've been jamming through I'll lose an hour.

I am REALLY grooving on this Modi Multibit / Jot / HD600 - what a stellar set up, at least to a noob.

It's like a match in Sennheiser Heaven! :) It sounds even better with a Saga in the chain. ;) I can relate to that emotional experience as well. Enjoy your new setup. :)

Hey thanks - the saganheim ... I've read a bit about the combo - what are your thoughts on how it colors the sound? With the Jot, I do find there can be a lot of "brightness" (could be the wrong term) on some music with the eitr/Modi Multibit/jot set up ... others, like dylan leblanc sound awesome. I'll also put a shout-out to song exploder's new REM episode, really cool episode and sounds awesome on my set-up :)

When things get a little bright I switch over to the TH-x00 and it keeps the jam rollin

I ran the Saganheim for a short while, hoping to alleviate how forward the Jot's headstage was sounding, and felt it did a decent job with staying transparent. Tube rolling and coloration seemed incredibly subtle. I wouldn't say I had any coloration, but bass and treble extension, texture and airy-ness, changed a little.

I soon found that I couldn't get passed the extra gear in the signal path. After a time, I adjusted to the Jot's headstage, and sold the Saga.

All said, I still wish I had the Saga. Not for HP listening, but I miss the remote controlled, uber-passive pre for my vintage Pioneer receiver. Plus it's a great starting point for 2-channel rig.

To my ears Jotenheim is a tad bright / treble happy. The Saga is a really transparent device. With that said, I use a PS Vane tube in my Saga. To me it adds a bit of sound stage and texture that is very pleasant. I do bypass the tube when listening to anything that is reverb heavy. For everything else the tube is engaged

To add some additional detail, I don't use the on-board DAC. First I used a Modi Multibit and now a Bifrost Multibit. So take that into consideration as well.

Im not so sure it's the Delta Sigma dac as a issue, but the USB receiver part. I noticed significant improvements in my JOT + DAC with the addition of a decrapifier. (W4S Recovery in this instance). But yeah, the JOT dac is not ideal.

One of the vocal tracks I've been using to test various tweaks is Hawai'i '78 by Israel Kamakawiwo'Ole (track 15 on Facing Future).

    On the Eitr > Modi Multibit > Jot > HD600 ... wow.

Quick question regarding the built in phono version. Is there any adverse affects from using just the phono in the Jot and having it go to my ZDS (or speakers) vs the headphone out of the Jot itself?

had this exact reply typed up this morning, but refrained to click the "Post" button-
this proves everyone's ears are different. or maybe the OP has a muddy DAC. ;)

Excellent, glad it's not just me :p

You're too young to be going deaf . But if you continue using the Jot and HD800, you may eventually become deaf. I'm j/k. If you enjoy it, then that's great. I don't think I could personally stand a hd800 on the Jot, especially a stock one.
