If you're using motherboard S/PDIF or onboard USB (or an equally jittery source) it can still be somewhat smeary/muddy.

As a former treblehead (Beyer DT880 250 ohm, Grado RS1) who eventually migrated to darker cans, all I can say is that treble nasties are pretty insidious. While saying that you could deaf from the same is a bit of an exaggeration, you certainly run the risk of agitating any pre-existing problems such as tinnitus or accelerating the loss of high-frequency hearing when you've got treble daggers trimming those hair cells. To each their own, but watch the volume.

Oh, and cool avvie @Illya. Never really felt a pressing need to watch the mahou shoujo spinoff, but FSN is an old fave of mine, as is UBW and all the rest. Heaven's Feel FTW though.

(But really what's with the yandere face? That wasn't from the original series was it?)

Hello everyone. I'm back. I just picked up a Jotunheim again, which will arrive next week. I previously paired it with an E-MU Teak with good results, and two ZMF Oris (the one in my avi and one with blackwood) with great results, using a Modi Multibit as a source. Then I sold everything because I wanted to try other gear.

I'll be using an ifi idsd black label as a source for now.

I'm debating which headphones I pick up next. I might go with an Atticus or an Aeon Flow again.

I listen to a lot of rock and metal and game a fair amount.

I've got the Jot (eitr>Modi Multibit) and am using the HD600s and TH-x00 which cover a lot of bases for me. I've tried both the Atticus and AFC, which I used to own, and those are pretty different headphones for me ... Ultimately I've decided to wait on the Atticus until I get a decent tube amp, maybe in Q4 next year, as they seems quite a bit more tube-friendly than Jot friendly. The AFC just didn't work for me due to lack of bass / midbass. All of that said, FYI I'm a total noob.

I am using Pagoda > Jot > Hd650 and love the pairing.

So I just picked up a black Bifrost Multibit(from this guy actually ^^^^^)

After realizing that I would be obsessively refreshing that other place’s amplifier sales forum every 5 minutes, seeing if someone would post a black Valhalla 2, it started to seem like a better idea to just grab a black Jot directly from Schiit.

    Planning on running:
    Bifrost Multibit->Jot->HD800S

I am worried about the constant warning against a Jot/HD800 pairing, but have also latched on to a few points to rationalize the purchase.
    1) Marv puts the Bifrost Multibit more towards the smooth side of things
    2) Bill seems to think the new Jots might have undergone a silent revision, helping the treble spike.
    3) The HD800S tamed the treble spike of the older HD800 model.

Am I about to shoot myself in the foot here? I will admit that my decision is very much being driven by the aesthetics of the black, symmetrical Schiit stack but I want something nice looking on the desk until I can talk myself into ordering an Aficionado.

You'll never reach audiophile level 2 if you can't put sound quality ahead of looks...

Jotunheim synergy is critical to enjoyment. I had a Modi Multibit - - > Jot --> EMU Teak chain, and it was very good, but a little bright. I swapped out the Teaks for a ZMF Ori Blackwood, and it was *sublime.*

Most recently, I had an iFi idsd Black Label --> Jot --> Audeze iSINE 20. This one was a disaster. The treble was a fatiguing mess, and the bass lacked the slam that I crave. I'll add I'm not overly sensitive to treble and I can tolerate a little extra treble "energy," so I'm not one of those people who hates anything with a brighter tilt.

I haven't heard your setup, but I have heard good pairings on the Jot and bad ones. It really makes a big difference. Because I know the Jot's potential, and I didn't like the iSine 20s, I sold the headphone.

    I kind of want a Gungnir Multibit/Meowtwo sized box that's an all-in-one Sagaheim ...

I purchased a Jotunheim earlier and received it today.

Question about burn-in: does this need any burn-in to sound "proper"? I currently find the treble / upper midrange to be quite overwhelming. I am feeding it with a MSB Signature dac and I've tried both single-ended and balanced inputs. Listening with AKG K702's and Audeze LCD-3's.

I can only speak to my experience. I thought it sounded pretty good out of the box. Let it burn in for the day and try listening tomorrow

I have one at work, and I leave it on all the time. It gets a little shouty up top when it's cold. Give it a day.

Really believe warm Jot's a myth... it seems brutally warm/cold/neutral based on the source/dest ;D -- show us a non 1.01 version number (visible thru the upper right vent holes on the board)! Don't think it exists.

Confirmed, v 1.01 here. I purchased my Jot in August of last year, so 6 months ago.

Mine is also v 1.01. I left it blasting at full volume for the day, let see how it sounds once I get home.

There are some running changes which might not necessarily involve a PCB revision:

I think something has changed. The top-end is still quite assertive, but it doesn't feel overwhelming anymore. Jotunheim has been powered for 36 hours now.
