I would still consider the HD600 first. The HD598 is good but the HD600 is still the one with more potential.

    Good source + good amplifier + HD600 = win!

    With the HD598 it depends.

Then again I am still convinced an AKG K240DF in good condition trumps most mid-fi headphones as long as you have a good amplifier and that thing is vintage. Newer is not better by default.

Interesting. No 51x variant this time around. I wonder how they intend to differentiate the 579 and 599? Another piece of foam, perhaps?

I honestly doubt they'd do any major update to HD650 / HD600. If anything they would just release a new headphone with a similar tonality.

The HD6x0 drivers are superior to the HD5x8 drivers.

That said, it's very interesting and exiting to see these new range of headphones. Don't know how the HD5x9 drivers perform, or if they are different in any way.

All these code numbers are making my head spin. Reminds me of some manufacturers in the mobile phone industry.

They have taken every number just below 600. I was hoping for a 6XX like everybody else here :(

A closed back (or partial closed back), may offer benefits in the bass region... but don't know how they will do in the mids and treble regions. Again, very interesting.

Well, if they have changed the 5x9 drivers from the 5x8 series, there could be some hope that improvements to the 6x0 drivers are in the pipeline.

I used to think that until I got used to open back bass. While it's definitely not as powerfull, I can't imagine going back to skull rattling anymore

A HD250 Linear mark III would be nice. An update on the mark II would make me interested.

At most I might buy a second HD600 to have a spare and be happy.

Well Sennheiser did just choose to quietly revise the HD 600 and 650 instead of releasing entirely new headphones like they did with the HD 558 and 598.

Probably not much improvements. And why do we need something in between 55x and 59x?

They are already basically the same, except for some foam

579 and 599 looks to have the same mesh design and better construction, making both revisions of the 598. The 559 looks just about the same as the 558 except for the new thingy on the mesh (won't it just cause more reflections?). Only the 569 looks like something actually new but considering Senn's current business strategy, they probably just crammed the same driver into a closed design without much engineering. I miss when Senn designed high-end stuff (that was not meant for billionaires or exhibitions).

Depends how major any hypothetical changes are this time around. Seems like it would be in Sennheiser's best interest to hype up a significantly updated version.

Please forgive this noob question, you are alluding to the silver vs black drivers right? Or has there been a more recent update of the 600/650?

I'm waiting patiently for a new open dynamic in the $750 to $1250 range, ideally with the 650's tonality but improved aesthetics and materials. The revised 500 series headphones give me hope that we may see something from Sennheiser. It seems the Elear, while promising has fallen short. I quite like the updated looks of the new 500's though it's hard to say how the materials and build quality stack up.
