So I don't like foam. But Sennheiser has decided that this headphone should have a significant amount of them. Well, okay...

    Material(s) used:

Some perforated cloth thing from Aliexpress. Link:

    And that's it.

Just cut out a piece as big as the foam (or a bit smaller, whichever), and replace the front foam with it. I think the rear foam piece should be left where it is if you haven't taken it out already.

Of note, this also seems to be the material they use with the mesh/dust cover of the HD800. Just that HD800 has an extra layer of something like the bird cage cover I posted a while back. The HD650 doesn't seem to need that extra layer. Just this one will do.

    Pics or it didn't happen:

As always, please report back if you get the chance to do this to your HD650. I'd love to hear what folks things. :) No measurements from me, though I can tell ya it looks quite good.

Measurements or it has no discernible effect :p

Kidding aside, I'll have HD650s back in the house for a bit soonish. Might try tinkering with em too, will report back on here with impressions if things turn out well!

@Bill-P do you often browse the fabric sections of Asian online shopping sites? Guess you do, which is a good thing for us!

It looks more open than the stock foam. How does it compare to the coin mod, to your ears?

Yeah, I do look for certain materials now... if I can. As for how it sounds, it's... less midbassy. :) (note: I'm not implying anything measurements-wise, although... I have done measurements)

It also happens that I'll meet up with some folks this Friday, so... we'll see how this one does there.

...and then you'll get the full version of what I did to this HD650. For now, this is like a tease.

I removed the foam from my 650s years ago and replaced with - nothing. The beauty of this mod is - if you don't like what you hear you can easily replace the foam or try something else

I suppose it's a bit like speaker grilles - very speaker I ever had sounded better without the grilles and for me that was the same with the 650s.
