You folks have been fantastic. Thanks so much. I think you (and @shotgunshane ) have returned me to my right mind. Thanks for clarifying "the mod." And, thanks for the tip on the Fulla 2.

More great help, @shotgunshane and I very much appreciate it. When the grandkids are sleeping, IEMs are my alternative to the Maggies. I've forfeited some SQ with lower-end headphones & IEMs. Now, I'm going to step up.

    Again, many thanks.

Right now I want to have a good dynamic, and I am hesitating in getting the FD01 or the EX1000. I can get both for decent prices. I really liked the FD01, but it is really too bright and I wonder if the mod will bring it to tolerable. The EX1000, is an easier choice maybe.

EX1000 bass is better for sure. But I vastly prefer the modded FD01 treble to the EX1000. I never found a mod that could let me live with the EX1000 treble, whereas I can live with the FD01 slightly hazy bass.

also, for a #tbt the HK only ltd version of the JH TriFi (anniversary version of the Triple Fi 10) is avaliable for worldwide shipping AND 50% off
    here, https://www.mtmtshop.com/products/jh-audio-trifi-free-shipping

it’s apparently a JH branded Triple Fi but with Freqphase, 2pin connectors and a new compact ergonomic body.

The modded FD01 is less fatiguing/bright than the EX1K to my ears. I find it still thinish sounding from sources like phones or M0, but from my Walkmann there's enough thickness to be found.

New budget dynamic going on the list when I can get a moment: Sony MH755. A $7.95 iem. It’s a stupid J-cable and it’s very short. So while impractical, it’s a decent length to use with a little bluetooth amp clipped to your shirt pocket or collar. Using it now with the Fiio BTRK1 and iPhone.

Moondrop Kanas Pro is going to miss the list. Aesthetically everything is pretty nice and sound wise the signature is pretty darn neutral. However it’s pretty dry sounding. It has a sub/deep bass boost that makes it feel a bit lacking in midbass punch. With some sources you can fill it a bit and sound very good in a quiet environment. However once you get it out on the go, with it’s average dynamic driver isolation, the lack of midbass punch is quite evident. At any rate it’s a solid iem, just not best of the best, so not going on the list.

I never heard much about the Campfire collaboration with Shinola. The specs make me think it's the Lyra ii driver in a cheaper shell. Anyone laid ears on it?

EDIT: Nevermind, looks like it was discontinued.

me neither, will know this weekend when i give them a try at a brick and motar shop, they look smaller than any JH i’ve seen.

local reviews say that they are cleaner but still dense and chunky in the mids, which is appealing to me. (so far, ime, only tg334, ve8, phantom and roxanne* scratch that itch for me but i dont need the refinement nor do i have the dosh to afford them).

*futuresonics g10 does have a full midrange but it sounds like AM radio upwards (to me)

Yep. If anyone has been waiting on the Plus, now is the time. My last visit to the site showed 19 hours remaining. YMMV.

It's been a little while since I've heard an EX1000 but say on a scale of 1-10, 10 being 'least hazy bass' where would these two fall relative to one another in your opinion? I personally don't get the sense the modded FD01 has hazy bass so it's more of a curiosity. I have a local acquaintance that has an EX1000 so it may be an opportunity to meet up for coffee and comparisons haha.

I think @james444 may still have his EX1000. If so he could give a more authoritive answer. The haziness of the JVC bass is slight and not a deal breaker by any stretch.

I hesitate to assign numbers to anything. People tend to take it way to literal. Maybe the spread is 1 point or perhaps 2 points max. What does this even mean, lol? Then again the modded JVC treble is probably 2 or 3 points better than the Sony? Really impossible to say for sure when just going of memory.

For me, the thing to take away from this is its certainly in the conversation of the best single dynamics. So if you can’t hear both, go by what’s more important to you. If you are a die hard lover of effortless and extended bass, and peaky treble doesn’t tend to bother you, go for the Sony. If you’re like me and treble presentation makes or breaks an iem for longevity of enjoyment, the modded JVC is safer ground.

I don't get a sense of hazy bass either, on a properly modded FD01. It probably depends on the music one listens to, but in my book, bass is only slightly inferior to the EX1000 (maybe a 9 vs. 10). The difference in treble quality is much more pronounced, in favor of the FD01. Overall, I'd also think the FD01 have a slight edge in detail resolution and transparency.

Lastly, let's not forget that the EX1000 are very susceptible to wind noise and only suited for indoor use.

It is one of their in-stock, ready to ship items. Look at the green box in the product page:

I haven't heard them, but sounds like these might be good candidates for a front vent mod (you know, the silicone strips underneath tips). With a little less deep bass, these might be perceived as fuller and punchier in midbass.

Just like to add two words on the ergonomics concerning these two DDs. The EX1K requires the cable end being bent to a specific form, like the stock cable. The point is to insert them vertically (and deeply) into your ear canals. I use the Andro stock Litz with an MMXC-adapter and have to make the cable follow the shape of the stock cable.

As for the FD01, you could wear them straight down or overear like Andro. I personally like to have them straight down, which requires the cable to be soft enough and not having the sturdy "hook" near the end.
