Good to have everyone over , not all could make it but there will be more to come.

@fraggler introduced us to a new Bourbon which went down well and I had stopped by RaisedGrain for a growler of liquid refreshments.

The usual shenanigans of getting to meet new people and catch up with old , trying all sorts of gear arrangements and discussing little tweaks and newer amps / transducers ....

Good to hear the ECP L2 again - it had been a while but still sounds top class.

@sodacose 's amps were very well put together - ie looked gorgeous and sounded the part too. I probably preferred the control of the PASS SIT amp with the Maggies but given the tube amps were driving the maggies with aplomb was remarkable in its own right - and they sounded good

We tested out the KorgNuTube B1 which keeps amazing me with how good it is for such a simple amp and the franken monitors were a slapped together bass unit from the RadioShack LX5 and the Monsoon ribbon ( will have to take some pics to share )

    EDITED - PICS added

Original slap together to see if it might work

    Tidied it up a little

Comparing the unity gain designs (Pass and Cavalli) and the Whammy as preamps really was a fun treat. Couldn't have better gear than the Pass amp and Magnepans to reveal the subtleties.

Here is a pair of speakers I made a few years ago using Monsoon panels for my computer.

There are two 150 watt Sony subwoofers under the desk.

Have since built new speakers for this Ryzen computer and it's 40" HD monitor.

Never seen a clear molding on any of the Monsoons.

I really like what these little panels can do.

Also decided to go the whole way and buy some better bass drivers for them.

I decided to go for something that could potentially reach down low and picked up some tangband 5 1/4 bass/sub units

Needed some modding to fit inside the boxes - initially tried the dremel and cut the baffles but I was concerned that the heat might damage the rubber / foam surround , so I switched over to a much more labour intensive process with a metal nibbler.

But managed to squeek them in and on initial listen , not bad - need to hook them up to a real amp rather than my headphone amp and when I get some time will measure their FR

You must have strong hands to do all that cutting with a nibbler!

LOL. they let me know that they were not happy with the idea. In my younger days, I was a rock climber and could pull myself up with my fingers.... but that was a long time ago and disuse plus age reminded me that what I thought was a bright idea was a total PIA..dB

This was the second system build after the Monsoon speaker system.

Midranges are B&W 175mm Kevlar drivers. Tweeters are Janszen electrostatic speakers.

10" 125 watt Subs are under the desk.

3 Way Ashly electronic crossover, Custom built SS amps 125 watts times 6.

The sound blows away the Monsoon system I made by a country mile!

Clarity, Power, Imaging are all amazing.

Plus the tweeters are clear "See through"!

Still using the subs and the B&W Kevlar midranges for my computer,

But upgraded to HEIL Air motion tweeters for a while.

Have a new build going now.

One of my first really Hi-End systems was a pair of Magnapan Tympani III's the ones with three panels.

Added 8 Janszen electrostatic tweeters to each side, So it was actually looked like 4 panels per side!

That was an amazing system, Powered with a Dyna ST-400 amplifier.

But that was 30 years ago, Onward and upward since then.
