I just noticed that everyone, musicians and audience are wearing headphones in this video!? Anyone have a back story on this?

-> using an M50 as an isolation headphone for drumming

    *pinches temples*

On Topic: If I may speculate a bit, maybe they just think their performance sounds better on headphones and wanted to create a unique experience for their audience? It's also possible that it's just a gag for the music video. A very very AT-endorsed gag.

I thought I read somewhere that they record all their music (or at least this album) live. Therefore, maybe this isn't simply a music video, but an edited video of the actual recording of the song. Hence why everyone would have headphones?

ha! second trumpet has his right ear off, probably so he can hear.

I agree with poochzag's speculation. For a new twist, anyone know what cans the audience are wearing? I can't make out what is written, but they look like a T400 or something in the A series?

It's recorded in live conditions but I guess guitars , keyboards use no amps but are directly plugged to the recording console. So the audience couldn't benefit of the full mix without headphones. They'd hear only acoustic instrument and no amplified ones.

    Maybe I'm wrong.

Sorry to revive this ancient thread, but… Google “silent disco”, it’s a thing in Europe. Also, listening to a 15 piece live band with brass and multiple drummers while sitting in the middle could get overwhelming. Also as was pointed out previously it lets the audience hear a proper mix. BTW, the dvd of that recording session is a lot of fun.

Always good to be reminded of this song. What an incredible recording! That solo towards the end by Cory Henry blows me away every time I watch it. It’s like he’s possessed and nothing is going to stop that music from getting out of him.
