On a bit of a purge lately and up for grabs is my Sanded Ebony cup ESX900s. These are the best ESX I have owned sonically (I Have owned 4 over the last few years).

I bought these as a frankestein set of TH-X00 PHs that the previous owner added TH900 direct from Fostex into making them TH900's. He then added EMU ebony cups. The finish had a bunch of scratches, so I removed it and sanded to a semi polished finish...would call it more eggshell finish than semi-gloss.

The set comes with a homemade 4-4.5 foot cable terminated in 3.5mm. These are the perfect on the go set, and sound best with a low output device such as a phone or ipod. I am going wireless and will not be using these closed backs anymore. I should call them semi-open as they leak a bunch of sound.

The headband is in perfect condition. Pads are excellent. I have stock, pancake and current ESX pads to send along with the set.

Does not come with Fostex box or stock cable.

    Price is 700$

C'mon man, time to polish that up and varnish to a mirror like finish!

But then you loose all the grain. I have a can of lacquer to do just that, but boy do they look good in the raw form

The varnish won't help bring out the grain? I would have thought the shine would make it pop out more.

It seems the shinier the cups the more glass like and black the ebony wood looks. Since i spent a lot of time sanding and getting to this point, I will leave it up to the next owner to finish further!
