I read this post and many others here and in others forums :) As I said I like hd650 and used it many years so I don't have to read posts or measurements to judge it. I just don't really understand that hype and how some even compare it to audeze headphones. Audezes are on another (higher) level to my ears.

I wouldn't go that far (refering to Judeus' post) - everyone is entitled to their own tastes in headphones. But I do recommend maibun read the link I posted about the HD650's

P.S. maibun, you are not going to get banned just because you like a particular headphone, Judeus is just being silly.

Well like I stated in another post, you are certainly entitled to your opinion on headphones and what you personally like.

HD650 vs LCD-X vs HD800; three headphones with wildly differing sound signatures. To say one 'hands down' beats the others is a dramatization. If anything is hands down it's because you like the colorations of the LCD-X vs the colorations of the HD650 and HD800.

For what it's worth, I don't like the HD650 at all. It's too rolled at both ends for my liking. The bass is sloppy. The midrange is great, but it doesn't matter when I can't look past the bass and treble.

One of the more annoying response-patterns is the "You said something that disagrees with forum consensus -- perhaps you have not yet read The Definitive Post outlining the consensus" thing.

Sometimes people will have read your favorite post, and still disagree! (And in particular, it's going to be hard to convince people to second-guess their own firsthand experience with reference to some post.)

Interesting, a reference to a Judeous post, but I cannot seem to find it in this thread...........hmmmm.......case of a missing post or am I not understanding ?

Now really, we all have opinions as well as other things and we can disagree and we can still all get along, and.............

I said that everyone is entitled to like whatever headphone(s) they like. My link to that post has nothing to do with "Forum Consensus" Nor did I state "Hey you're wrong, the HD650's are better than headphone "X" - I posted that link for some interesting reading.

For those that aren't constantly jerking off to the thought of the HD650, and if you haven't given this info already, I'd be curious to know if it was an older or newer production model, what amps you paired it with, and what sort of music you listen to primarily. Some people aren't gonna like it, and that's cool, but some perspective and background helps.

Again, if you haven't heard a newer production model, with slight mods as suggested by purrin, from a really good tube amp or some specific higher end SS amps, coupled with a nice DAC, you might find it interesting to reevaluate. And maybe you still won't care for it.

I'm sure The Alchemist was just assuming that you haven't gotten around to reading those posts and only wanted to help you get around.

Maybe it might help to facilitate the discussion by mentioning what kind of tracks you listen to? I've honestly never minded the lack of extension on the HD650 myself but I can see it being lacing for certain genres.

Guess some people haven't gotten around to saying "I prefer the XXX to YYY". That's how I read his post. No, I didn't miss the "better in every aspect" and then says the "comfort of Audeze headphones is the worst I ever experienced." Maybe they were better in being worst in comfort in his experience.

Better options doesn't mean that everyone can afford them. More power to them if they can. HD650's are a great value at its pricepoint.

That post taken alone was probably innocuous, but it was one of a pattern of posts I've seen that boil down to "You're saying X, but Authoritative Figure Y said something different, maybe you want to read what they said and reconsider your opinion?"

That wasn't the case - like I stated twice before, you are entitled to your own opinion and entitled to whatever headphones you like. I just thought you might want to read the post, I was not insinuating that if you read that post you would change your opinion. Anyway, this discussion with me is over. I meant no harm nor disrespect with my post or suggesting you read the post I linked just so you would possibly change your opinion. If you have any further issues with me regarding this, PM me and we will handle it in a private manner.
You're entitled to your own opinion, and I have no disrespect for your opinion on headphones, or what you like. End of discussion.

FWIW when I compared the LCD-X to the hd800s on my friend's DNA stratus 1-2 years ago, I found the hd800s to be better in most regards except for perhaps bass impact. The LCD-X to me had a weird timbre that shouldn't be there for such an expensive product.

Any neutral higher end solid state amp recommendations for the HD 650? I actually preferred the O2 to the Speedball Crack. There's something about tube coloration and highly distorted guitars I dislike. Maybe if I heard one of those supposedly neutral Eddie Current tube amps my mind would change.

I think you are reading way too much in between the lines.

You are welcome to your opinion, but by the same token I could say it is you who is hyping a $1.5k headphone over a $300 headphone which only does sub-bass better if you have short hair.

As far as Audeze in general, before the LCD-X, there were the LCD-2 which where at another level of product variation.

My first experience with an LCD-2 was some years ago at T.H.E. Show at the Schiit room. I was not impressed. Even LFF was like, "so you don't want to spend more time with them?". My answer was "Nope". This was repeated over and over. Though I think Craig's LCD-2 was not that bad. In general they are not that horrible. But for the price, and considering how much cheaper and good sounding other cans are, they are IMO pretty horrid.

Forum think? Not really. Other folks here like HD800 and Stax in general better. Some may want more bass and go for cans with more impact.

I liked the Bottlehead w the HD600s. And I'm liking my O2 with the HD600 very much.

Personally I feel with lesser sources and/or lesser amplification, (good) LCD series certainly have an edge over HD6X0. But when good source and good amplification come into play, HD6X0 will scale like mad, while LCDs just hits their ceiling quickly. However I definitely consider myself biased - I'm a dynamic die-hard. No ortho other than HE1000 (absolute performance) and HE400S (value) has impressed me.

Also - I've witnessed multiple instances of LCD's driver fail/wood cup cracks. And it's annoying - you have to send them back. OTOH if there's anything wrong with HD6X0, order the parts and install easily. I tend to put a questionmark on Audeze's build quality, and I think the maintenance convenience is a usually overlooked upper hand of HD6X0.

I really liked the Black Widow, but you might find it to be more "colored" than you'd prefer (you know, subjective stuff, since it measures "neutral").

The DIY Butte amp seems to work OK too. Not as thin sounding as some other SS amps.
