Could be that the Z1R might run best in balanced on the Sony DAPs.

I dont see how that statement is relevant because it comes with a 4.4 balanced cable. I dont see why anyone that has a newer sony dap wouldnt base their impressions on the balanced side.

It's possible that @purr1n first impressions were from his ZX2. If people find out that it likes more power, perhaps using the new Sony DAPs with the Balanced output might solve that problem. We'll know more soon enough.

I've never heard more power to fix undesirable frequency response and poor integration between BA and DD drivers.

I measured the ZX2. It actually put out 420mW into a 20 ohm load with 0.05% distortion. The digital amp has plenty of current for IEMs. It just doesn't swing the voltages that high impedance full-sized headphone like.

The Magni 2U will do 1W into 50-ohms. The Schiit Aegir power amp will put no more than 4W into 50-ohms.

the greatest IEM experiment ever! How much of Moar Powah(tm) does it take to smoke the Z1R?

Pretty good dynamics and resolve for an iem,
Warm with alright bass clarity, there is a clear slam and it can get slightly muddy, despite being quite bass heavy.
The timbre is good, with a slight nasal tilt on vocals.
While this is excellent treble extension for an iem, I still miss upper treble, which contributes to air
    Sensitive to hiss.
Tonal tilt is quite obvious in a drum heavy song like epitaph, bass overwhelms you and the other stuff without bleed.

I didn't feel like I needed to take more time with this after the quiet rooms at the show, this was with the qp1r.

Ultimately, I still prefer both Andromeda and acoustune because of the resolve and tonal coherency.
