Sonarworks pulled the plug on True-Fi. This bites because I actually really liked the Meze 99 Classics with the (free) SW True-Fi app on my mobile. Gave em to my kid sister a while ago though and none of my other (supported) headphones work very well with phones, so no massive loss.

I downloaded the beta and so far it's exactly what True-Fi was, but with nerfed functionality— used to be able to play local tracks, but now I have to use Spotify Premium. Seems like they're planning to make it so that you can transfer the personalised sound to all sorts of devices, which I take to mean desktop, smart speakers, home media centers, etc.

Not sure why they had to axe True-Fi, but I will admit I don't hate their new look:

    P.S.
I would have bet money on these results, haha. Used HD600, HE4XX, and Galaxy Buds. Initial try was more treble-polite but after quite a few more runs-through I ended up just keeping the 1kHz dip:

Yeah i saw this a few days ago but didn't think about posting since i didn't believe many use it.

I am curious about this though "Definitely, all True-Fi license owners will be provided with a SoundID Listen lifetime license for free!" and i hope they remain true to their word.

I will believe that when it happens. My experience with them has been...less than satisfactory, even before they quit adding supported headphones and now announced the end of support for the "lifetime" license I purchased. Not losing sleep over it, but me giving them any more money under any circumstance is highly unlikely.

If memory serves they offer True-Fi Lifetime licence holders keys for the new toy, just need to contact them. Would be curious how they fare in comparison.

As of March 2, 2020, we (Sonarworks) have stopped selling True-Fi products in our store. From now on, SoundID will replace True-Fi in the Sonarworks product family. You will still be able to use your True-Fi license, but moving forward we will gradually stop supporting True-Fi desktop and mobile apps. All future development efforts will focus on building the SoundID product family. All True-Fi licence owners will receive an email with their free lifetime licence key for SoundID in the upcoming weeks, we're now working on a smooth transition.
As of now, you can already enjoy it free with 60-day free trial https://www.sonarworks.com/soundid/listen
We haven't stopped adding supported headphones - we're constantly adding new based on the requests submitted on our website and to Support.
If further clarifications are needed, please feel free to reach out to our Support

Grand to know True-Fi subscribers aren't getting their butts ripped off, thanks for clarifying that :)

I initially liked True-fi but on desktop in became unusable. I had to restart it 10 times a day. And the Android version could not be used with any other player. I am pretty sceptical but I have the license so I will try it.

That's odd. I use sonarworks reference and sometimes I need to re-initialise the audio, but that's generally only when I plug and unplug USB DACs.

That could be the case if True-fi is used as the only output or the only Roon zone. But when I used True-fi with Roon every time I switched to a different zone I could not come back to True-fi without restarting it. The same thing with Jriver.

Very impressed with the new app so far, and I definitely jive with the new aesthetics.

Pleasantly surprised that the preference identification was so spot on for me being U-shaped. Not the most scientific or fair comparison, but the difference between my phone with the SoundID app vs on my laptop with the True-Fi app is quite small in terms of sound signature at least.

So far I wish there was a way to manually tweak the settings further; as silly as it was it was pretty funny to just crank an extra eight(... teen) db of bass from time to time. I'd also like to see a bit cleaner integration with Spotify on the mobile app (access to playlists, autoplay radio, etc), but I'm not a developer so I have no idea how feasible of a request that is on Sonarworks' side of things.
