Oh god, yeah, it's pretty close to that. Promised my wife I'd at least leave one room in the house untainted by tube gear and record players. I have two speakers already set up, and three in development.

Those 3 speakers in development, all horns? Or you got any soft dome kits?

That will be my house once I get my own house, a well paying job, and spend time on craigslist.

One is a 15", 6.5", 1" old school big box where I'm shooting for 94db at 1.83V sensitivity. Another is a compression driver, maybe with Be diaphragms, large format horn (I sold the Oris to @zerodeefex) with 18" OB woofer.

The last one is a desktop speaker which I've had parts sitting around for years but finally got to. I love the small format Fostex widebanders, except they have no bass. I also didn't want subs. Only small woofer driver that I know that can get down to 33Hz extension is this Scan-Speak. You'll see this used quite a few audiophile speakers. The driver is expensive. It also sucks in the mids with decay that is too slow, so it will be used below 500Hz. No, it won't be good quality bass, not like a 10"+, but it will do lowish bass.

There were HiFi shops in Japan that looked like this.

@purr1n would you be willing to share the desktop speaker plans? I have wideband desktop speakers that I like but miss the bass.

Have you looked at the Purifi PTT6.5 woofer?

There's also that Anarchy XBL motor woofer that Kevin Haskins used to sell. I think Denovo is licensing the design now though DIY Sound Group. In a dayton 1cuft box, ported, those woofers did 3db down at 27hz in my 400 sqft room, which is pretty nuts.

Welcome to my humble establishment. This is my listening and "office room." (Btw, I live in a rural area so no problems with nabers here) Lending JBL EON15-G2 from a good friend (PA system). Trying to figure out what I want. This is for reference as big woofer driver system and I am aware that this is quite random. Sound good though, surprisingly good. Vocals are quite honest. Surely this is not high reference, but still pro PA speakers that have admirable qualities. Need to do more listening.

You can't mistake a 15" paper woofer slam for anything else. Powah.

Was surprised by that. They actually sound quite neutral.

I'm almost done reorganizing the garage and storage unit in my basement. Once I'm done, I'll recover the Oris horns from work and do a build with them. Will probably use them with the moth cicada drivers, run 4 of the PAP woofers and move my 2 SI 18s into sealed enclosurss if I need to fill in the bottom end.

Those are two 15 woofers per speaker in "Ripol" configuration. The interesting thing is that, apparently in this configuration, sensitivity goes up 8-10db, resonance frequency of the woofers goes down 10hz and bass radiates as an assymetrical quasi dipole, thus much less room interaction.

I'm not a big fan of the multiple small midranges, but if true, the whole concept is incredible. Interesting enough to DIY or hire an experienced speaker builder and deliver a couple of suitcases full of cash to Supravox or Acoustic Elegance and see "what happens" next :)

This configuration makes a great deal of sense to me on a very "instinctive" level. Another way of saying I don't have much actual knowledge upon which to base that.

Kind of like S&M for audiophiles with the speakers dangling by chains from the ceiling. I had to copy this picture! At the same time it also makes me feel claustrophobic like the walls are closing in on you! Probably great sound though... LOL!

It would amuse me greatly to find out that everything sounds like shit in there.

With the length of those diffusers it probably is close to an anechoic chamber without being completely dead sounding in there. That's even scarier if it's dead quiet. I guess if your sitting at the console and not worrying about the room your in it might work. Other wise I'd feel like in the belly of a dragon!
