Come on folks, don't downvote. This is in the wrong place (as @Thad E Ginathom indicates; speaker porn), but it's actually a fascinating and well written article, even if you just want to shake your head at how bonkers it all is.

I skimmed it. It struck me as just like all the other similar pieces I have read over the years. Writer X, who has a passing (or more) interest in audio, makes a pilgrimage to some ORFAS company and then gushes about the tech, the $market$, the personalities, the diverse eccentric aspects of audiophiledom, etc. etc. Yet another impressionistic puff piece.

Give us a TLDR if I have it wrong...

    Just in... ESD Panda.
How's that for a "super-best" loudspeaker cabinet interior?
    CNC precision-machined aero-aluminum, I'm told.

CNC machines are not gods. Marketing folk, though, think that many people bow down to them. CNC does repetitive work predictably and fast, that's all.

Hand made, on the other hand, is, all other things being equal, worthy of much more admiration.

And what precision is required in this piece of speaker-cabinet stiffening? 1/8 inch? And probably not the 5 thou of that 0.125. Hmmm, well, maybe: I guess it had better be a press fit into that cabinet, else vibrations.

I've heard tell that aero-aluminium is an alloy that does not actually exist except in the minds of people marketing things that are not aeroplanes. Maybe our engineers will correct me on this. And maybe they can tell us if that piece of aluminium is more suited to the job than a piece of ply or mdf.

    More questions than answers!

Yg acoustics speakers are precision cnc aluminum. They definitely need to be precision, to have the screws line up, and everything to fit together air tight. There were even torque specs for each screw to properly seal. Even with all this precision, still needed to break out the hammer every now and then.

The equivalent about steel would be: ''automotive steel'' Yeah!
Wrt metals, in general there are alloys that can be cast, these are usually either soft (example pure alu) or brittle (cast iron) once done. Then there is billet stuff. Can be doped and treated to get uber proberties and machined into desired shape. And then there is sheet metal class that probably makes up most of metal consumption. From that tubes, sheets, and most other profile shapes are being drawn. Then there is a tiny share of truly exotic things, like powder metal and metal glass etc.
It would be safe to say that regular cars have many sorts of steel in them and probably same about planes. There is incredibly strong sheet aluminium sandwiched with polymers and fibers for the wings, cast items for not so critical things like levers and perhaps billet parts for extra important places (engine parts etc).
For loudspeaker use the key properties are rigidity/stiffness and ability to dissipate resonances (these properties are in general contradictory). There are many ways to this, but simply putting a box together from 'aero-aluminium' is formula for disaster.

My friends latest DIY speaker project sounds very very good. That fancy Italian horn tweeter is sublime.

Aircraft grade aluminium was always favourite marketing in Yo-yo market. Mostly used for models made from 7075 aluminium.

And I must say, 7075 aluminium yo-yos always felt different, had different sound and were able to be designed bit differently.

I wonder why you would choose two smaller woofers vs. one bigger one. Wattage limitations of SET amplification?
