I suppose that's just after he carried them upstairs. One under each arm.

Is this actually an authorized way to use these speakers?!

I'm pretty sure his bass traps cost more than my entire speaker and headphone setups combined.

I don't think there are tweeters on the bottom boxes... so maybe that's actually the proper system config for these to get the WMTMW arrangement?

Found it on my computer. I have no idea where I sourced it and I remember there was other images of the build process. I probably saved the image so i wouldn't lose it.

If you have strong search-fu I would highly appreciate anyone able to source the image.

edit: thanks @Metro . Additional pics

I have no doubt that it works. But I'm finding it hard to believe that this was actually in the JBL manual for these giant speakers.

I'm amazed at the dedication to built into your foundation like that. That is a true commitment to that one particular speaker. I think most of us here fidget too much with gear to ever consider that. Well, except maybe the DIY folks who could build different speakers that would all fit that footprint opening.

I see access hatches in the floor for cables and such. I wonder what else opens up.

Also... anyone have a clue what the additional foundation things are on the outside of the speaker?

So as near as I can tell, the top ones are JBL 4343 BWX, and I think the bottom are the same but with the compression horn removed. No mention in the manual about stacking :p

The large distance between the mids will cause comb filtering in their upper range. Also, the distance between the bottom mid and the tweeter ruins any attempt at a point source. JBL knew this ;) lol.

Isn’t this dependent on listening distance? With the amount these are spaced apart the sweet spot is likely to be pretty far from these speakers.

The wooden driver assembly seems removable so you probably don’t have to live with these if you change your mind. The concrete foundation stays for sure, but that’s invisible. I guess it can be repurposed as storage, which I know a lot of Japanese homes have.

For sure - the farther away the better.

Now that I'm 30 years into this hobby, I understand. Once you've spent a significant amount of time with a dozen pairs of speakers of various type and learn their strengths and weakness and which set of compromises you're willing to live with, there really isn't that much reason to change things out anymore. I could see my next set of speakers being the last ones I ever buy.

Ironically while it seems over the top, it’s extremely high WAF/SAF too. I think a lot of people would prefer this over a BK-20. Honestly looks like a bookshelf speaker on stands.

Is there an article on the first system above? Curious what drivers are used in the line arrays.
