My reliable Sansa Clip+ bit the dust today after many years. I had it rockboxed and it took care of all my lossless files that I had (flacs, and .ape). I need a suggestion for an inexpensive replacement that would be suitable for use while exercise. It doesn't need a clip since I can just stick it in my pockets. I also am only going to use it with an undemanding KSC-35.

Is there anything out there that doesn't require rockbox (it became buggy) that would fit this need while being affordable? Portability, durability, and file support are honestly of more importance than pure sonic fidelity in my case. My desktop setup takes care of the rest.

Edit: I also don't need too much memory. I could get away with something as small as 4gb if need be, since I cycle my music often.

Ipod? Fiio X1, X3, or M3? Xdouo X3 (or something close to that)

I realize that my post sounded a bit ignorant and lazy. To clarify why I'm asking, I have been completely disinterested in portable music players for so long that I have literally no idea what's out there on the market.

I don't like the restrictiveness of apple players, so those are out of the question. The FiiO M3 looks good, is small, and is a good price. Unless there is something obviously wrong with it, I'm thinking it may be the best choice.

How about shozy alien? It wont play mp3 ,only flac/wav via micro sd card.
It got no screen tho, nice aluminium body. Very nice sounding dap for it's price imo.

As interesting as that is, I still do need playback for ape and mp3 files. I am actually quite astonished that there is a DAP that will only play lossless files. I learned something new today.

I haven't heard the Fiio M3, but at that price and amazon, your a sure winner. I own the X1, great little dap too. I've yet to hear the new X3, but I own the OG X3 and love it. Fiio is extremely reasonable, hard to beat them. What is your budget?

I always just roll with an IPod Touch + a Meelectronics Sport M6. Unfortunately, lossless files and Apple's obsession with making everything as difficult as possible (f**k you iTunes) don't go well together. I'd say get a Fiio X1 too. Right at $100 retail, so you can probably find it for cheaper.

I ordered the M3. As nice and well built that the X1 is, it seems a bit large and heavy for an exercise DAP, as well as having a shorter charge life. If the M3 doesn't meet my expectations, I'll return it for an X1. Thanks for the help.

X1 is the size of an ipod, just an FYI. The old school joints with jog wheel.

I found that the M3 seems to have problems displaying files/folders in alphabetical order for some reason. Otherwise it's a good player for the price.
