Surely there will also be Gungnir Multibit upgrades down the line as well.

Is that a bulbous tube or are you just happy to see me...

(actually, I guess the headphone stand is a bit phallic as well. Looks like things are popping up all over the place!))

This is treating me pretty well tonight!
    Picture6 copy.jpg

My Modi MB and Lyr 2 into a Focal Elear on loan from Todd at TTVJ. I wasn't sure what to expect from the Elear but I have to say there are some things that it does really, really well and I am finding it extremely enjoyable on certain types of music. In fact, I seem to have lost an hour somewhere tonight, just listening and enjoying myself. When you can just sit back with your setup and forget that the rest of the world exists for a few minutes then you know you've hit on something good.

Good catch! Give that man a Zana Deux! Bet you find the Polarity Reversal Cable helpful when you evaluate different driver tubes.

Pardon my ignorance, can the phase reversal cable be used with a single ended output like the Zana Deux?

EDIT: I suppose it should work, just like having the wiring backwards on the headphone side. I'm still waiting on mine....should have built my own.

It will work with a TRS to 4-pin XLR adapter. I use it with my Zana Deux SE.

Here is one way to do it. Cut the headphone cable approx. 6 to 12 inches from the TRS connector. Wire a Neutrik 4-pin female to the TRS connector side. Wire a Neutrix 4-pin male to the headphone side. Now make a 4-pin male to 4-pin female cable with the right side reversed. I prefer Canare L-4E6S cable. This preserves usage of the headphone with systems not having polarity reversal at meets by removing the short adapter cable.

How do you find the string instruments are with that setup? I know out of my chain initially, violins and the likes sounded 'tinny' and 'hollow' for lack of better descriptions with the Elears.

I still want to try the Elear even though I pretty much know I'm going to be disappointed. Maybe an Amazon order is in...ehh...order.

Another question Bob, have you tried replacing any fuses in your gear? I've been reading the Zana Deux thread and this has come up a couple times with the Synergistic Research Red Slow Blow Fuse being the prime example. I'm wondering if there is any merit as those who are using them say it is more apparent than tube rolling the driver tube.

I'm not Bob, but I can state that from my experience either fuses will 'help' or they won't.
In my case they do make changes, some brands of fuses are 'better' others not so much.

In most cases they can be returned for credit if they don't 'help'.

The SRQ fuses are what I have 'standardized' upon in either the original flavor or the red.
I haven't tried the blacks, that's just way to crazy money for a fuse, even for me. [IMG]

IOW only you can determine if they 'help' or not.
But I'm betting you won't return them, just based upon my experience and that of others who have ventured down this rabbit hole of audiophoolishness.

Yeah it certainly can be a slippery slope into and down this rabbit hole, and once entered you can't go back.
