    Hey!

As some of you know - I work for Sonarworks. We're a company which offers pre-made calibration profiles for a multitude of popular headphones. So far we've been focussed on the pro-audio segment, but I think it's time to let you in on our newest project as well.

    What is it -

An Android based (iOS will come) music player which offers real-time calibration via our technology. The target curve is roughly similar to Harman-Olive one, because it was developed similarily.

    What you'll get -

An APK file you can install on your Android phone. The current build is in beta stage, so it might crash on some phones, but I promise that it's the worst it will do. It won't damage anything or do something bad to your music library.

What I want from you -

To enjoy your music. No really - fire up our app and listen to your favourite tunes. We'll send you a short survey to find out if you liked what you heard and what bugged you about the UI.

What you need to have -

    AIAIAI TMA1 (PU foam pads)
    AKG K141 MKII
    AKG K240 Studio
    AKG K271 MKII
    AKG K701
    AKG K702
    AKG K712 Pro
    Audeze LCD-2 non-fazor
    Audeze LCD-X
    Audio-Technica M20x
    Audio-Technica M40x
    Audio-Technica M50x
    Audio-Technica M70x
    Beats by Dre Pro
    Beats by Dre Solo 2
    Beats by Dre Studio
    Beats by Dre Mixr
    Beyerdynamic DT770 80 Ohm
    Beyerdynamic DT770 250 Ohm
    Beyerdynamic DT880 Pro
    Beyerdynamic DT990 Pro
    Beyerdynamic T1
    Focal Spirit Pro
    KRK KNS8400
    Sennheiser HD25-II
    Sennheiser HD280 Pro
    Sennheiser HD598
    Sennheiser HD600
    Sennheiser HD650
    Sennheiser HD800
    Sennheiser Surrounder
    Shure SRH840
    Shure SRH1840
    Sony MDR7506
    Sony MDR7520
    Superlux HD681

P.S. In some cases an amp might be necessary.

    2. An Andriod (4.1 or newer) smartphone. Tablets aren't officially supported, but will most likely work - the UI will just look like crap. If you have a fancy DAP that runs on Android, give it a whirl and tell me how it goes.

    3. Music files (.mp3, .ogg, .flac, .aiff, .alac) in your phone's file system. Streamers aren't supported yet.

So if you're up for dipping your toes in what will be the future of headphone audio, then PM me and I'll hook you up with everything to get you going.

Awesome! I'm not your target market yet because my current phone destroys SD cards and limits me to streaming, but I'll absolutely let you know when I'm able to try this out.

Aww, that sucks, man. Can you get files on your phone via wire?

Sent you a PM. I have the Focal Spirit Pro & HD600. Intrigued to hear what you've come up with. Cheers.

A mobile version of Sonarworks headphone software sounds like good times, I have sent a PM as I have several suitable devices (Android 4 to 7!) and some HD650s. I'm sure I could put this through its paces quite cheerfully. Very cool, nice to hear that you're working on something like this.

(Interesting to see the SE215 in a screenshot, too. I have a pair of those kicking around, it'd be hilarious to hear them turned into good-sounding headphones too- at least in FR terms.)

Cool, thanks for the replies everyone! I'll get you your instructions today evening/tomorrow.

As for the SE215, we don't officially have any IEM's yet. Meaning - we have measured them, but are still working on making sure everyone gets the same accuracy we promise on larger headphones. It's not trivial due to difficulties in measuring IEM treble reliably and finding a way around the fact that many folks wear them differently.

Yes, that's exactly why I was surprised, and impressed. Good luck with that aspect, I'm sure you don't want to do a half-arsed job, so caution is understandable.

Meantime, if you can reliably make those other headphones sound neutral without killing battery too fast, that's going to be very interesting indeed!

Our guys are currently busy reading all of the literature they can and putting that into our new measurement hardware. With that said, I've listened for a good while a pair of calibrated Earsonics SM3v2. There was a clear improvement and we have done the same for other much affordable IEMs. The problem is that we're selling a sound reference, so it means that if you yank out my IEM's and plonk on a calibrated HD650 mid-song, I shouldn't be able to hear a difference.

The battery drain is largely on-par with running a streamer. The DSP architecture is pretty complex, but the average phone these days is also very powerful. Shouldn't be a big deal.

No worries :). Just letting you know for the future. I don't want people subscribed to the correct subforum missing out on alerts for things like this.

So, you're saying that people actually subscribe to hear blurb from nonsense peddlers like me?

In all honesty, I was just too lazy to scroll to the bottom.

Yeah, I can transfer things over, but storage space is tight with nothing but internal memory. I'll have a chance to choose some music and try it out this weekend, so I'll PM you when that gets closer.

Just a few weeks ago, I was looking around for a VB-Cable/VAC type of thing for Android so I could use Sonarworks and a crossfeed VST on Spotify streams. Obviously I didn't find anything that would work, so I'm glad this was already in progress.

It was an April 1st joke. But yeah - we got a real Surrounder and we calibrated it.

I don't like using my phone to listen to music, but I'll pull this down and give it a shot.

that's awesome @Hrodulf ! I use Sonarworks plugin on JRiver and I love it, it will be awesome to use on my Samsung Galaxy. AS @Changeling said above, I hope an IOS version will come soon as well, it would be extremely awesome to use on iPad and iPhone!

My major beef with the Android version is that it used to keep telling me to plug headphones in, when I was using an external USB DAC rather than the onboard- does it still do that? I couldn't find a way to disable the headphone detection.

I also felt like it needed to play to a UnPnP target, so I could use a renderer that didn't go via the OS sample rate conversion, if I preferred.
