The Disney Downspiral Thread

James Gunn, who wrote and directed the two Guardians of the Galaxy films, was fired a few days ago. Some alt-right trolls unearthed tweets from 6-9 years ago before he worked for Marvel and he made, as even he admits, really shitty jokes in an attempt to be edgy. Seems like he grew a fair amount as a person since then and got hired by Marvel.

Anyhoo, for those interested, here's a link to an admittedly useless petition to have him rehired.

Agree about the Star Wars but less for the Luke thing most people are upset about and more for it veering into being about redeeming Kylo and how everything is morally grey blah blah blah rather than the rise of a new Jedi and putting a crew together and overcoming all the odds by kicking the space nazi’s asses.

 

While we're at it does anyone mind if I call Disney on their prominent role in extending copyrights to infinity and beyond as well as their efforts to own all of American culture?

 

I used to go to basic law lessons. Even my teacher found that copyright issue to be a bit evil. Disney is so greedy in wanting to own everything it makes and/or publishes that it can hurt the creativity of future generations.

These are words I live by. It's no great secret that Filipinos are exceptionally racist, and truth be told I was too up until an embarrassingly advanced age. Knowing better now I kick that side of myself down whenever I catch myself being a dick. Had teenage Kevin the same amount of access to the internet as I do now, I'm fairly sure he'd have ended up in a bad place. Second chances do wonders, but not everyone is willing or able to change; many opt to err on the side of "caution" by cutting off healthy tissue along with the bad.

It's like how a good many men have been proper assholes for a good many decades, normalising misogyny. Now in response to that you have a great deal of misandrist tendency in certain corners of the internet (I open doors for and smile at people regardless of age, race, gender, or whether or not I take a fancy to them, thanks very much— thank Bathala I've not had someone go off on me about that yet).

Things are fucked up. This is due for a course correction in a few years, but I hope the generations that come after us learn to be kinder. Kindness is in short supply and highly sought, though. It's in part to do with how you've got a lot of people in bad areas who've never really been shown unconditional kindness, who think everything has to have a price and that the world really is out to get you (and in some cases, if you're in the minority, it can be). Make the world a better place, work so people learn to be kind, problem solved.

I'm not smoking anything, but I might as well be for how idealistic the last paragraph was.

 

I personally hate how reactive society has become. It's a bandwagon where we race to crucify anyone who offends the SJWs and those who consider themselves morally just.

Like @purr1n said, shame them, make them apologize, educate them and move on. We need to stop destroying people's lives for being idiots. We are all human, we all make mistakes, what really matters is what we do next.

What happened to letting people learn and grow?

 

Harvey Weinstein, Kevin Spacey etc... those were abusers of women and children. Gunn just made bad jokes.
