Yes, nothing I dislike more than looking at a scantily clad beautiful woman. And art, I can't stand art! :)

But seriously, I think people would have had to be on Steve's Forum (at the time) and viewed the avatars and read Steve Hoffman's posts about his children (in general) to judge his decision on what he wanted on his own Forum. Kind of like @purr1n 's "Sucks to be you." (but would have to be expressed in different words on Steve's Forum).

I respect Steve Hoffman's right to run his own forum as much as I respect purr1n's right to run his.* They both deserve that, IMO. Totally different atmospheres between the two Forums though.

*I don't feel that way about Jude.

This isn't aimed at you, allegro. You may have been serious / this risque avatars thing is fuel for humor anyway.

More likely anything inappropriate to the denizens here as an avatar would probably be shamed to changing it more than an outright ban wanted on it. That's how this forum rolls.

Once upon a time, I worked for an art publishing company. Our product range varied from fairly ordinary greeting cards to rather expensive fine-art prints. We had a long-established range of postcards, which, among a lot of other things, included a wide range of "old-master" paintings. These postcards could be bought in packs of one hundred, assorted.

One day, a colleague was telling me that he had received a request from a buyer, enclosing a number of cards, that they be replaced with others. No reason was stated. After some time being puzzled, he realised that the buyer was a convent, and the cards that they wanted replacing all featured... nudes.

I used to work for a catalog retailer. An artist once subbed in a number for a porn phone line instead of the actual 800 number on the cover and the error went to print. We stopped all the mailings bar one - also to a convent.

Now I’m imagining publishing companies inundating convents with nude artwork and offering the numbers of porn companies for follow up.

It reassures me that the universe is somehow in balance because Robert Crumb used to do cards for American Greetings.

I wonder if Mike (@baldr), who admits to being a Deadhead, is also a fan of Robert Crumb.

I loved his stuff. I especially remember Fat Freddy's pleasure that his cat had not shat in his shoes. The cat, meanwhile, is thinking "Just wait till you put on the headphones" :p

I'm not a bible man. In fact... Well, ok, it's better not to even pursue that topic with me on an open forum!... But, Robert Crumb... His illustrated Genesis is just incredible. On a par with the amazing illustrations (albeit lacking colour and gold leaf) made by medieval monks

Come to think of it, I am not certain that my copy survived the Chennai flood of 2015: I lost so many precious books then :(.

I love Robert Crumb! Might have to change my avatar to Mr Natural:) If not already check out Comic Book Confidential documentary from 1988 on Amazon video, also Crumb (1994).

Check this out on Amazon: complete box set of Crumb's work. Expensive but Bible of Filth looks cool and affordable.

Official Crumb site and store is fun to browse. Makes me want to spend cash:)

I have a lot of time to think these days. Therefore I contemplate the stealing (and enhancing) of a great idea. I promise to return here after this coupla paragraph relevant anecdotal rambling:

Many of you know I originally (and at least partially by accident) fell into the gadget R&D discoveries via old stringed instruments hardware nerdisms. These instruments were Banjos and Mandolins made by Gibson from the 1920’s until the start of World War 2. Why by Gibson? Because for non orchestral use, all other such instruments sounded like ass, even in the context of prewar sound. In the 1920s and early 1930s, Banjos were used as rhythm instruments in Jazz and brass orchestras. Such Banjos were 4 stringed instruments, either the shorter necked tenor banjos, or the longer necked plectrum banjos. The five string banjos were strictly for hillbillies, and did not sell well through that era of higher class orchestras. Besides, there was more money chasing 4 stringers up until the depression started to take a bite out of the highbrow banjo sales. Towards the end of the high-rolling twenties, the Banjos got fancier and fancier, with elaborate inlays on the fretboard, metal parts getting gold-plated and in some cases even hand engraved metal parts, and complex wood carving on the neck. Pricey stuff.

As the money began to dry up and deflation ruled increasingly in the thirties, the banjo prices dropped and the hillbillies came out of the woodwork looking for cheaper, less fancy instruments. They gravitated towards the Gibson Mastertones because of their sound, and their discounted prices which had dropped to below $50 by 1938. At this time, Gibson was scraping to stay in business. Fortunately, they had a few leftover and secondhand parts and began selling “Floorsweep” banjos. Well, today, these are worth a f**k-ton of money, if you can find one.

Fast forward to several weeks back, when Jason were yakking and he posed a solution to our slowly increasing supply of fancy Yggdrasil analog rev 1 DAC chips. He joked that we could make a “Garage-Sale” version of something with those DACs.

Hmmmmmmmmmm – seems like a great idea to rip off, at least for amps. So how about a Floorsweep Schiit DAC? We sell and warrant it, it is just not like all of our regular products which are, have been, and always will be built 100% from brand f'ing new parts. The metal would be made brand new so it would present well. Naturally, the warranty would be shorter, at least a year or so. This would also be an ideal platform for CAB (cheap-assed balance) technology, and an ideal solution to keep me from hoarding all of these very cool but unsellable DAC chips. Upgrades? Nope. Fun? Yup. A new level of performance per dollar? Yup.

Some great mental masturbation until I get off this f'ing donut. Maybe, just maybe.

I think it's a GREAT idea. This is for example what Linn has done with their Klimax DSM's. Once an upgrade came through, owners of a Klimax DSM could do their upgrade and then pay for a chassi in which their old card was mounted. It could then be sold by the original user, or by their dealer. A really nice way for current users to get a bit of cash back, or build a second system, or for new customers to afford some very nice equipment.

Great idea Mike. Sounds like a good use for that stack of used AD5791BRUZ chips and boards you have laying around after people upgrade their Yggdrasils.

    That's a great idea!
As @Changeling said, Linn does that with the old Klimax versions, they're called "Klimax Renew" and is a complete success.

Wait - so Schiit is selling Yggdrasil v1 Reruns for a dollar?

Edit for @rlow a few posts down - I’m just being a glib muttonhead and running with “I’d buy that for a dollar” noted above. I’ll go ahead and let myself out now.....

Cool idea. I like the concept of reusing these parts - the waste that is built-in to today's consumer electronics really bothers me, so I would appreciate seeing these put to use. Not to mention the ability to step up sonically without paying the standard Yggdrasil price.

One thing that I've been mulling lately is whether the Analog 2 Gungnir Multibit will end up closing the gap however with the A1 Yggdrasil so much as to make the old Yggdrasil moot - perhaps not? Or perhaps there will be no A2 Gungnir Multibit at all (it's just rumors to us regular folk at this point).

Or maybe this will become the bridge product between the current Gungnir Multibit and A2 Yggdrasil? Yggnir or Gungdrasil perhaps?

No. Completely different metal. Non-upgradable. Or at least that was the idea. Don’t get too excited, nothing exists yet, and won’t for a looooooonnggg time. We have plenty of stuff on the table as it is.

Can we add a handy headphone out to it too? Nothing fancy. Sort of the inverse of the DAC in Jot / Lyr 3 idea. A small headamp.

And while you are at it, can the constant transconductance output stage of the Lyr 3 be miniaturized?

I assume that was in response to @aamefford ? Either way, makes sense - a simpler product/package. Like a Modi Multibit on steroids.
