Hey, I didn't know we had an ownership interest in Schiit and EC. When will I see my share of the dividends? Or can I take them in gear? And I agree about the cat avatars; those things piss me right the f**k off.

 

WTF? No hate for stupid ass dog avatars? Why can't I be disliked for my avatar too? It's not fair.


Maybe we should have a SBAF stupid assed dog vs cat epic cage match - something to take our minds off the steaming cesspool of the internet known as Reddit.

 

I know right?!?!?! I even have my dog holiday themed avatar ready...

 

Their assessment of these instances comes across as pre-judging and/or the inability to read subtext and tone.

In these people’s subconscious minds we cannot be right, because that would make them wrong. Which simply cannot be. Resulting in pseudo-logic that suits their emotional needs. Self-bullshitting, essentially. I personally know people like this, it’s their very own personal reality-distortion field.

I trust people who invite challenge and opposing views. They just better back it up with a thought or two that holds water, and most importantly not throw their toys out of the pram if others disagree.

I think it's just that a lot of members use cat avatars, thus contributing to the sense of SBAF cultishness.

 

My avatar is technically a wolf, but I guess it could be mistaken for a cat.

 

Who cares what people say on Reddit. We all know YouTube comments are what really matter.

Since this is basically a trashfire thread to begin with, might as well ask: is the cat avatar thing just a matter of coincidence, then other people started catching on to the trend, causing it to snowball? I nearly used pics of my cat on here, or my doggo even (like Elnrik or Jeff), but decided pens were really more my thing (then later the cool chibi-me a friend made as a gift).

And eh, forum v. forum mentality is nothing new, to be honest. I've been on quite a few online hobby forums (SBAF being the third audio-related one, formerly of HF and DIYAH but only really started posting actively on here), and people tend to get all defensive when the "Us" is threatened by "Others". I'm sure everyone here remembers that one dude off DIY who kinda ragged on SBAF for being (insert snark of choice here). And besides, this is reddit we're talking about: that's the Rick and Morty fandom flipping death threats over limited edition sauce given life. Hell, all I can say is "at least it's not 4chan".

Hmm. Chord isn't all that bad, though I agree that their products are rather overpriced (Poly WHAT). The Mojo was cool, just not my preference over the iDSD Micro; got to hear a friend's Hugo 1 across multiple cafe meets, but given conditions I've never noticed anything genuinely striking or noteworthy about the presentation. Auditioning a DAVE is on the to-do list, but given how I'm never gonna be able to afford one barring some act of God it's a low priority thing.

Also, saying that SBAF is anti-Chord is oversimplifying. Some of the more prominent members are simply more particular about bang-for-buck and aesthetic. Yeesh, that's like saying is a Sennheiser or Schiit-shilling site!

... Oh wait.

1. Troll / Porker. The skilled troll manages to stay on for an extended period of time before being banned. The skilled troll is able to keep under the radar by following forum "rules" to the letter, but breaking the rules in spirit, and by engaging in low-level constant trolling, often with the use of smileys or double-meanings to provide the convenient excuse of "Oh I was taken the wrong way." When poked back by someone more skilled at forums, the troll often resorts to crying. They can dish it but they can never take it.
