Because of an access problem with a currency transfer company I removed my ad blocker for the first time in years and my ambivalence about ads returned.

Just this morning I saw an ad for a - Volt box. Apparently it cleans up the power, removes spikes and lowers your electricity bill by a big amount. It sounds like b/s but reading the science maybe not. It sells in the USA and I wonder if any members have experience of the device. It's available in the EU (designed and made in Germany) for €59 a piece, for a small house and 2 for a large house/apartment. You use it at the closest socket to your consumer panel/breaker box and for a larger house (European size) another at the furthest distance from the first one. It could well be complete b/s hence my question does anyone have experience of this device.

"lowers your electricity bill by a big amount" falls immediately into the "too good to be true" category and stinks of a scam.

I can't even bring myself to click on that link. Just run away and don't look back. I've seem similar crap come up in the past that all promise to save you money and they're all bogus.

    >>A: It’s similar to a water or air filter. Voltbox EMF Filters take time to completely filter the Dirty Electricity from your home (approximately 4-6 weeks for the average home). The moment you remove the filter the EMF dirty electricity will start to come back. So even though it is completely safe to unplug Voltbox devices, we recommend you always leave them plugged in to maximize the amount of EMF Filtering and prevent any benefits to be lost.

    Bullshit.

The brunt of the dirt on your AC lines will be generated by the devices at your home. Cruddy SMPS'es, shoddy motor in your fridge et al. Just buy audio devices with proper PSU's and you shouldn't have to worry.

One exception is living near industrial zones where stuff like metal smelters and other heavy industry can impact power lines. In that case you're either SOL and should complain to your power company or just use some kind of fancy power regen device. What's interesting - good SMPSU's don't seem to care too much about this, compared to linear supplies.

Not a new concept, these are pitched as "whole house power filters" in the US,, see https://emfessentials.com/products/power-perfect-box. Electrical contractors try to upsell them you you you put in new service. They also make units for outlets:
    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01M7QKBMW, https://www.amazon.com/dp/B015AMEX5U

    As for the claims:

Cleans up the power: Yes, IF your power is not already clean. As @Hrodulf said, if you live in an area that has shitty power that surges this type of unit might work, but first step would be to talk to the power company or your landlord. Second might be to buy a reputable whole house power filter but Id be talking to an electrician first.

If you're worried about providing actual clean power to a specific device, say an audio rig, buy a power regen of some kind.

removes spikes: Yes, to a degree, but the tiny spikes these would handle don't matter to most devices. Get a surge protector if you're worried about big spikes

lowers your electricity bill by a big amount:
No. This theory is related to the spikes. Spike = more energy being sent to device. Prevent the spike = send less energy = get charged for less energy. If this is actually a thing the amount of $$ saved is miniscule. Take a look at https://electrical-engineering-portal.com/the-real-truth-behind-household-power-savers for a better debunking than I can provide.
