    1) I believe this is Marv's coming out statement. He felt constrained by society's rigidly defined gender roles, and so he couched everything in ambiguous abstractions, eg subjective/objective is just a metaphor for male/female. He's saying he feels like a mix of things, or even the antithesis of things, not easily pigeon holed. Marv, lots of guys wear dresses, it's ok. Embrace your inner woman.

I would say that the motto represents our community.

Objectivists being maybe what the old school Changstar community represented while the Subjectivists represent the future or newer generation. Together however they make up the community of SBAF and it proves that both old and new can coexist. It shows that anyone can be apart of SBAF and not feel out of place or secluded.

The mission and nature of SBAF was to shed it's skin and evolve into something more open, something better, and more community focused. Lately it seems like SBAF has really shown it's DIY passion with the mod community pushing things forward and from what I have read even the new crowd is really interested. I think things have changed for the better if you want to join and contribute great, if not you can lurk, and if you don't want to do either that is ok too. We encourage more contribution in a focused way versus just posting comments (further expression of thoughts). One thing is very apparent though and that is we are not going away. We will create new ripples and waves in a more focused message where everyone can relate instead of just a minority. We also will not hate on other peoples opinions and have constructive comments rather than just noise.

    Objectivity:
    1. Objective perception (to me) is noticing differences in gear &...hopefully verifying perceivable differences with measurements.
    2. If perception can be correlated to measurements, differences can be extrapolated to other gear that has been measured.
    3. Attempts to objectively evaluate gear can lead to "stepping back" and identifying aspects of music (qualitative) that are impacted by an amount (quantitative).

    Subjectivity:
Subjective perception (to me) is objective perception with the added judgments of value($), enjoyment, utility.

    Notes:

-There is subjectivity in each person perceiving phenomena with their own set of physical abilities as well as what they choose to observe.
-Measurements have their own subjectivity too- what can/should we try to measure?

    Reviews:
The most helpful reviews for me = objective perception + subjective evaluation + relative comparison to other gear.

Only caring about one of the approaches in isolation may leave a lot out of the equation...o_O

    1. To me, "too objective for subjectivists; too subjective for objectivists" speaks to the one and only truth, that... in this hobby, one cannot bank too much on objective measurements, or subjective impressions. There is always room to grow for both of those in any case. So... whatever we write down, say, or experience today will only look like stone-age tech tomorrow. In fact, we should make sure that that is the case. I myself am very happy when I learn that I was wrong yesterday. There's so much to learn from that.

    2. Based on that, I believe SBAF's primary mission all this time has been to... nurture this hobby of ours to new heights. Constantly challenging conventional methods, wisdom, and stuffs in ways that we think make some sense, and then studying further, refining, perfecting, making our gears better. It's a never-ending pursuit, but if we don't have a bulk of data and contents to look at, to study, then we'd never get anywhere. No one can fully understand all of this about headphones with... nothing in their hands. SBAF is a place for us to hang out, have fun with friends, and also a place for us to learn from each other, and perfecting our personal audio experience with what we have learned.

It's all about getting there, I think. And I just love how SBAF does it more so than other places.

Both extremes are just ego playing. If defeating the other camp has become a higher priority than enjoying music, I really don't see the point staying in the hobby.

CHANGSTAR/sbaf is a good balance, although i notice a few headfiers migrate here for a while spewing trash but usually they leave after they realize they dont fit in which is nice

Well the HF hypers will find that spam here is less appreciated.

When the audio hobby has your genuine interest you want real meat, not spam. So they can keep their card board meat. I will have my fresh steak and cook it myself thank you.
