I switched to the balanced cable on my UERR and it was major bitch to do the swap. I was seriously scared I was going to damage something. Do not want to do it again.

Would love to see UE go to MMCX style connectors for future products. When I had the Campfire stuff on loan it was super easy to swap cables. I went back and forth between balanced/SE cable at least a half dozen times quickly and without issue.

Edit: MMCX style connectors are also well proven/mature as they are used in millions (billions?) of RF (wireless/GPS) radios.

on headfi.org a few members have kindly replied with their imput and also suggested i check out this thread.

these interest me as my first TOTL iem...currently have FLC 8S, and have had the sony mdr 7550.
looking at the UERR and the 11.pro (bass).
(must admit the andromedas intrigue me, too)
    http://pro.ultimateears.com/products/custom-monitors/for-audiophiles/ue-11-pro

question to those who've had both (or listened to both UERR and the pro11 bass model)
....does the bass version still have as detailed and 'balanced'
and approach as the UERR (i mean i get it the 11 pro wouldn't be as neutral given it's warmer signature) but is it still close?

i'm asking as i really enjoy hearing all the musical spectrum: details, airy resolution...but also fab bass slam
(which is why i enjoyed the (vented) sony 7550 so much)....enjoy picking out bass guitar melodies, floor bass etc.
listen to rock, blues...but overall just want a versatile IEM.

    thanks for any feedback

Well I got my pair of UERM's (originally @Griffon 's) back from reshelling at Inearz and so far they are awesome, everything I was hoping for! I will try to update with some of my impressions after I have had some more time with them (along with some impressions on Inearz for reshelling).

One thing I will say is that they are held to a very high standard around here, and now I understand why.

(Blue Ribbon and Red Light faces with Smoke shell, with a black cable from Inearz with the recessed sockets option)

Has anyone noticed a sound differednce in re-shelled UERMs? I am considering buying a used pair. Unfortunately, inearz does not offer re-shells anymore. Apparently they have new owners. Can anyone reccomend a good re-shelling service? Thanks!

Try Perfect Seal. They used to do reshells. Not sure if they still do. Mike has the measuring equipment and know how.

UERM owners, what do you recommend regarding output impedance for the UERM? As close to 0 as possible?

“Lower is better” is a good general rule, but I don’t think it’s critical where the UERM is concerned. They worked fine with the Pono player, whose variable OE made it wonky with a lot of IEMs.

As close to zero as you can. Impedance drops to around 8 ohms in lower treble. Higher impedance will slightly darken it. I remember the few of ohms of the old AK240 making it a little dull and less incisive.

impedance measurements can be found here:

Recently i had the chance to audition my friend’s UERM. Man, these are the perfect IEMs for me. Everything that i love about ATH-CK10 and ER4 is present, very flat and neutral sound (besides the peak at around 10 kHz, similar to that of CK10), but with much better soundstage, layering and dynamic range. I wish they were still in production.

Do any of you guys have one pair for sale by chance (universal version would be perfect)? I feel like this my dream IEM and i would love to add them to my collection.

Very few pairs in the wild will be universal version OG UERM...I think they did do a limited universal version release in Japan.
(No idea how many units were sold in Japan.)
I don't know if they ever did a "universal version" limited re-release of UERM in U.S. They didn't do one before the changeover to UERR.

The universals were usually only part of the demo kit (which I had for one or two years when I was the Head-Fi "ambassador" for UE).
We did kick around the idea of trying to do this at Massdrop but it would probably have needed to be around $900 to get UE to resurrect it for us (just the sense I was getting)...

I do still like mine and wear them from time to time. The old pour-style customs still fit great even after ~9 years now!

Yeah, i am aware of that, i saw 2 or 3 people on HeadFi selling their universal versions (they couldn’t get a good fit so UE made special universal versions for them).

I would buy them (universal version) in a heartbeat from Drop, even if they where 1000$. They are THAT good

I am also interested in custom version if anyone have them for sale. In Poland where i am located we have CustomArt - they can make a really good reshell. Damn, i wish i could get them when they were still in production. From what i’ve read UERR are not as good, which is a shame because I can get universal version of them much easier.

Have you looked at the G.Audio in ear monitors? If I remember correct, some members here compared the UERM to the flat model (Nair I think?)

I have both the custom and universal version. Soundwise, they're pretty much the same. The main difference is isolation, the custom version isolates a bit better, but produces more footfall noise when you're on the move. Being a mobile listener, I ended up using the universal version more often than my customs.

Bottom line, I don't wanna part with my universals. But if you want my customs for a reshell, you can have them for a fair price (PM me if interested).
