Did you send him payment? Maybe he might still make good? He didn’t mention other interest when I was emailing with him, but, yeah, it wasn’t screaming scam.

Why would he "make good" after telling a bunch of people they are getting the amp? Why would anyone trust him after this? What's he going to say? "Yeah my bad, but I promise to sell it to just you, trust me bro"?? Not worth the risk and he doesn't deserve a dime after pulling shit like this. And who even knows what kind of shape its in now that he's proven he's willing to do this?

Well, having corresponded directly with him.... He never said he was definitively selling me the amp but instead provided a lot of helpful and quite specific info about it--none of which seemed faked--as well as the various tubes for sale. It didn't scream scam to me at all. But, then, I didn't get far enough to discuss payment. And I don't know what he's promised or not to others.

I dunno. There's room for confusion when someone gets a ton of inquiries (and let's face it, tire kicks), and an inexperienced seller might not know the etiquette. I suppose others could come forward and say what he's told them?

Kind of crazy to put someone on blast and call them a scammer without any proof...

Proof is more than one person paid him and he's run away with the money...

This seems unambiguous and fairly definitive to me. Unless there is some misunderstanding here that needs to clarified, this appears to be the actions of a scammer.

That's a little late isn't it? By that time countless people will likeliy have lost money.

You don't need 15 buyers for an amp to sell it. My messages to him alone were not waffling or asking questions, i never even asked about the cosmetic damage because i don't care. My messages were very clear that i would love to buy it and was ready to send payment and i said how excited i was about the amp. That's the only buyer he needs. But I'm sure the other now 3 SBAF'ers were also clear that they were ready to send payment.

Also of note is that he asked for my address for a shipping quote and I responded with my complete address and also mentioned that i would need to pay with G&S because of all the scams lately, and he never responed to me with a shipping quote, but apparently did respond to some other people here with shipping quotes. And he was acting like he was going to sell the amp to me. I mean to the extent that i posted here that i was getting it. So G&S ended our communication.

That all addds up to a lot of red flags. And my only reason for posting this is to try to save people from sending FF payments and losing 2k. Which is also the only reason I put those words in bold so people would see it. And also because @Josh Schor always uses huge bold letters :D

Remember when some of you dudes decided that Otomon was worth defending because it was Whitney warning about it and then that guy turned out to be full of shit? I do. Super Best Audio Friends!

This would be red flag enough for me. No shirt, no shoes, no G&S, no service!

After being bent over by a scammer last year my spidy senses tingle at the smallest hint of bull. This one is off the charts.

Edit: the more info that comes in it seems like he listed, doesn't really want to sell it (wifey asked him to sell it? Lol), but if the right offer comes along he might.

I still wouldn't buy it, but unless we have proof he's actually taken money from multiple people this is just guessing at this point.

I'm one of the dudes messaging about this amp. Have sent a couple emails with several days in between messages back. I did receive a shipping quote back with my actual zip code in it, and what seems like a reasonable size and weight and packaging procedures in line with what I've seen from Eddie current amps in the past. I've asked a little bit about the amp and the person seems knowledgeable about it. Like RD, I've asked about payment and there hasn't been a response. So, if this is a scam it's missing the best part. The scamming.

As far as I can tell the only thing that anyone has lost is time and a bit of energy. Maybe I missed out on someone actually getting a message that it's theirs, but all I've seen is the same copied and pasted message a few times, and then I got a more individual response.

Best I can tell the person isn't exactly in rush to sell. They are poor at responding to emails in a timely fashion. They aren't clear about payment terms, other than referring to their USAM post saying that they do accept PayPal and that fees are the buyers responsibility. And they should have stuck with one person potentially getting shipping quotes.

I'm prepared that I will never receive a message back and the beloved EC 2a3 mk4 serial number 3 will be one of SBAFs great mysteries.

PS - what up k4! Hope all is well

Yeah it’s just like, sure, this guy could be legit, but no one’s getting hurt by staying on the side of caution when he’s being sloppy. I’m sure if one of us ends up with the amp, we’ll absolve him. This isn’t a report to a credit bureau, it’s a message board thread.

Well no need for any fighting or drama, I mean do what you want, I just wanted to warn the community because if we know of 3 people messaging with him there could be more who are unaware that he's got 3 people here already thikning they are buyign the amp from him.

RE: @JoshMorr I get your point, but it doesntt make sense to spend that much energy lining up sales and calculating shipping costs with countless people (if there's 3 here there are logically a lot more outside SBAF) when they're all ready to buy the amp. That is if your intent is just to sell it once. All he needs is one buyer, all these emails don't make sense unless he's a weird dude or trying to sell it more than once.

I can appreciate paranoia over a sale going too far, though. I had some guy I sold a pair of Gold Lion 300B’s refuse to send me payment until I literally face timed him at the post office. I almost cancelled the sale I was so annoyed.

Really don’t think that’s what’s happening here, though. If he is legit he won’t have much trouble getting a sale from someone somewhere with almost any EC amp.

That's funny. I canceled a purchase from someone on HF ($2k plus and I was ready to pay) because he demanded I call him on the phone before the sale. The entire process was just insanely annoying and feet-dragging and enough was enough.

Is there a thread on painful sale or purchase stories? Could be a fun read and cathartic.

Same guy was also trying to get me to lower the price to like 25% of what I paid Upscale Audio for them after I asked for around 50% with an hour on the pair because Upscale cryo treated them so that could, by his logic (possible, I guess!) reduce their lifespan. I was like take it up with Upscale Audio man, idk what to tell you.

    SFD-1 Mk II in Canada, $CAD 950 (~$US 680) + shipping + 3% fees if Paypal:

    https://www.canuckaudiomart.com/details/650214775-sonic-frontier-sfd-1-mkii-dac/

Seller seems legit. A Lauren Harris print in the background of one of the photos suggests it is indeed in Canada (or was when the photo was taken :p ).

Edit: That should of course be Lawren Harris; almost a citizenship-revoking offence.
DAC is still available as of Wednesday 10am Pacific.

Truth, some people think 2K is an awful lot of money and get nervous.

Thinking about this the other way around though: If I was nervous about a transaction and asked for a phone call, and the other party refused, I'd bail in a second.

I do have a 'points-of-contact' tolerance issue these days though. Around the third 'tire-kicking' contact from a perspective buyer they're likely to get ghosted.

or maybe some innernet challenged old dude that doesn't sell shit on USAM very often? You should watch my girlfriend's father try to order food from the kitchen in his assisted living facility using an iPhone, for inspiration. Shit goes off the rails when my GF says, "dad, just hit the hamburger menu up at the top of the screen" ... "HAMBURGER! that's what I want!!! I could go for a hamburger, which one's the hamburger button??"

Either way, my spidey senses are only minorly woke given the story here. But who am I; no skin in the game, so best of luck and be safe everybody!

I am not sure if it is a scam but see no problem rhythmdevils pointing it out. Even if it is overzealous he is just trying to look out for people here. I could see this being a scam on the other hand there are a lot of buyers who are tired kickers and lowballers. This isn’t exactly the same thing but it could be a case of an honest but…I guess you could say discourteous seller.

I mostly posted something because I had posted that I was getting the amp so I felt responsible to report the risk.

I'm guessing if this was a Mjolner 3 for sale everyone would just be steering clear there's some interesting psychology on display here. This is the exact language every seller has used with me when selling someitng to me (and not 10 other people), and if he was to suddenly write me after this "I sold the amp to someone else" I would say a very long "WTF" for wasting my time.

I've been scammed numerous times lately, appealing to your "oh but they seem so kind and innocent, this could be legitimate" is a refined practiced intent. There could be a whole team of people orchestrating this.

I'll just leave this here and you all can do whatever you want. This was his last email to me which I responded to with my complete address for a shipping quote and mentioned that I needed to pay with G&S (and offtered to pay all fees and offered to send him a prepaid shipping label if he just gave me weight and dimensions so it would have been a super easy sale), after which he did'n't reply to me but did reply with shipping quotes to others who may not have mentioned G&S yet.
