You can, but at least there is seller protection, which may help if you follow the guidelines. But if you are subverting their system, and asking for paypal gift, and someone does a chargeback... paypal will have no mercy on you. Why would they care if someone doesn't give you a gift?

Thinking the cart, if in the condition described, would make this a reasonable deal for Americans if you could get it shipped at reasonable cost or go get it (Toronto area). $CAD 1700 is currently c. $USD 1350.

Oh I met the seller, bought my decware off of him for 1300 CAD. His shop is basically his basement filled to the brim with speakers, amps, dacs and turntables. Super nice guy who accepts reasonable offers. I managed to get 400 dollars off the listed 1700 price for my decware due to a small noise issue with the hp jack (which he only found out after he put up the listing, and made sure I knew of it before I decided to buy it).

 

Even if he doesn't negotiate on that one, his list price is ~$100 USD cheaper than I could find the cartridge and tonearm alone.

 

I'll do it for free if I get to listen to it as a short term loaner.

Certain brands of cartridge are among the (few) things that don't seem to have kept up with the exchange rate plunge of the Canadian $ of the past couple of years - Dynavector and Ortofon notably. I guess turnover is slow enough.

 

I will second that opinion. Make sure you check the dimensions. They are tall.
