This is the game that got me into PC gaming back in high school.

Also, related to my high school/college gaming days: https://www.ageofempires.com/games/age-of-empires-iv/

Don't have a huge amount of time for it right now but looking for new games to try.

Just scrolling through my Steam library, games I've enjoyed include Dota 2, Dota Auto Chess and/or Underlords, most games in Total War series with Rome 2 or Fall of Samurai being favs, FO3, FO3 NV (FO4 is OK), Arma3 (controls really suck though), Skyrim, Life is Strange (although this is more of a visual novel than a real video game IMO), Dishonored, some of the old school Star Wars games, Red Dead, STALKER series (Call of Pripyat).

Not into most shooters as they're way too unrealistic / cheesy, MMORPG type stuff or Japanese RPG type stuff like FF series, anything with significant amount of DLC/pay to win/continuous spending, etc. Also some specific games I couldn't get into include Undertale, Civilization series, Overwatch, and stuff like COD or Battlefield unless I'm just playing the campaign if acquired on sale <$10.

If console then a Ninja Gaiden (Xbox) successor would be nice.

It sure will be! I'm glad they left the option to have combat turn-based. As for Vincent, yup, agreed -if- we'll get him in this game. It's said to have several chapters from what I know. The first is going to include Midgard area only.

Same here. I remember playing it on a 14" monitor and a 3DFX. Back then it looked awesome!

Not the best game I've played, but it was good. The background (mental disease) of the lady was quite cool.

Hi everyone, I’d like to ask for some suggestions about the best games that can be played on an Xbox One X. I’ve not had a console in nearly 20 years (my last one was an original Playstation; I played a couple of PC games about 15 years ago). What do you think are the top 5 or 10 essential, greatest hits of the 21st century that I can play on my Xbox? (I realize most of you are PC gamers, so I apologize in advance for my Xbox-specific query).

I’m a fan of FPS, action, and driving games, but I’m willing to try out new genres (like role playing) if they come highly recommended. I’m not interested in multiplayer. But I am a fan of Halo and Doom, and I know of BioShock and Resident Evil. I am reading through the thread but wanted to see if there was a consensus about the best places to dive back into gaming. Thanks in advance!

    Ori and the Blind Forest
    Rare Replay
    Final Fantasy XV
The upcoming remastered releases of Bayonetta and Vanquish.
Halo Wars is also quite good if you'd like to try a well implemented RTS system on a console.

You've got a lot of fantastic titles to catch up on!
In more recent memory, Jedi: Fallen Order is quite enjoyable.
Also: Witcher, if you haven't played it on PC.

Thank you for the recommendations, they all look great and should keep me out of mischief for a few months. From a bit of my own sleuthing, a couple of upcoming games look fun: Empire of Sin, this spring, and then Ghost of Tsushima (although it’s not scheduled for release until the summer, and only then on PS4). Thanks again everyone.

Found a new game in Witcher 3. For those who have played - how many hours for 1 play through for you?

Still looking for any possible recommendations on PC too (See above post).

About 90 hours on my first playthrough and I missed out on a ton of quests. Currently playing through for the second time and enjoying it probably even more. In close to 40 years of gaming, Witcher 3 is my fav of all time. Enjoy!

I took my sweet a$$ time. Explored everywhere, did most of the side quests. Great game. 120 hours.
Hoping the Cyberpunk 2077 is just as fun.

The Witcher 3 was 100+ hrs game easily, but finished twice.

A pity CP2077 got postponed, but now I'm fixed at Wolcen, Diablo alike thing which looks good and launches in a bit more than a week from now on. From there my next is going to be most likely Final Fantasy 7 remake on PS4 in March, I think.
