There is a pocket watch I want to see fixed. Fixed toy syndrome is just as good as new toy syndrome...

Great, then you can switch to buying various nato straps. Check out Toxic natos, phenomenato, Delucca, and just about any Crown & Buckle nato strap. I enjoy swapping straps on a regular basis.

Black and blue are my favourite colours. The black & grey one also looks pretty. About 20 Euros a piece on-line in NL.

I absolutely LOVE the Aevig Corvid posted a few pages ago. Sadly, it's a bit out of my price range and, of course, not easily available in the US.

Do you all have any recommendations for something with a similar style?

Also, I don't see any Fossil watches recommended. Are they generally frowned upon? They have a couple of designs that I'm drawn to.

This is currently the only watch I own, so I'd like some variety. I'm typically drawn to clean/simple designs.

Not the best photo but what about the Seiko SRN071P1? Quartz movement but with "mechanical" winding (moving the watch charges the internal battery). The hands are dark blue. The strap is not original...[IMG]

A tad dressier than I'm looking for.

This has my attention at the moment:

Looks good! Here is a similar style but with automatic movement.

Parnis 3251 - never had a Parnis myself but the movement is a Miyota (Citizen) so it should be OK)

    EDIT: found the B6W version

For little money the Seiko 5 37mm is a great little automatic. With a nato-strap it transforms from a toy to a watch you actually feel on your wrist...

So I have the same watch and almost the same watch strap...this is too weird.

The thing is mine ran too fast (about 10 seconds a day) and I sent it off for warranty repair. And now it is like 5 seconds a day slow. I can't win, lest setting it about every three or four days or so. If I don't manage it, it will quickly get two minutes behind - a bad thing for me.

I've got this watch on my list, but have heard that before.

My eco-drive Citizen watch can run for months without losing time noticeably, and I tend to be brand loyal.

My daily beater watch, when I don't want to have worry about it, though the watch has remained surprisingly scratch free. - Seiko SSC021 Solar Diver.

I try not to look at watches since I can't afford the ones I like, but have been considering a new one. I have worn this guy for the last 13-14 years:

Victorinox Alliance Chronograph 24668. It represents my ideal style pretty well - understated, classy, but a bit sporty. The thing I have loved about it is its sapphire face. I have banged my watch into so many door frames, table corners, etc. over the years an there isn't a single scratch on the face still. The polished stainless steel, however looks like someone took sand paper to it. Not sure if I could adequately polish up the metal (plus the rubber band is looking like it will crack soon (and is increasingly hard to find spares of), so was thinking about a new one.

Anyone know of similar looking watches with sapphire crystal in the $300 range that I might look at?

The 7s26 movement is reliable. Thing is sometimes it can bump into issues like: date adjustment is incorrect, power reserve dwindles quickly, precise time hacking is only partially doable.

My Steinhart's ETA-movement has almost no issues. Even so the 7s26 movement is still a good workhorse for the money.

I am not a stickler for precision time as long as I know the deviation. Some people are less tolerant for that issue.

My next purchase will most likely be a Seiko Presage with the 4r35 movement. I am going to avoid the 7s26 movement because for my cheap workhorse Seiko 5, yeah it is sort of acceptable. For an automatic watch over 150-200 Dollars/Euros, nope.

Just curious how others feel about using their mechanical movement watches when swimming. Despite the water resistance 'ratings' of those watches, I've always been paranoid and switch to a who-cares watch when swimming (also because I'm not so good about servicing my mechanicals).

I have a Muhle 100m with display back and screw crown. So far so good after two years or so. I know I need to get seals checked sometime soon.

I have no problems submerging my Resco UDT (mechanical), Reactor (Quartz), or Tag Heur (Quartz). I get the seals checked and gaskets changed at regular service intervals. I would not swim with any of my other, non-dive, watches, nor would I suggest wearing any watch in a hot tub.
