These look great, though they only claim water resistance. Do you have any experience with them? I don't scuba, but do snorkel.

Edit: Your're right, those are not proper dive watches. If you can stretch, I would suggest the orient Kamasu: it looks great, has Sapphire Crystal and is rated to 200 meters.

The Type 3 is only rated to about 1 ATM so it's no dive (or swim) watch by any standard. Ressence has the Type 5 which has a reinforced backplate and a dive lock. Theoretically the oil fill is both a shock absorber and improves underwatch viewability, but it also means that if the casing does shatter, you're going to be spraying highly flammable, toxic liquid all over the place...not for people who bang up their watches!

I second this, although any water resistance is more of an ongoing service than a guarantee. If you want your watch to stay waterproof for years, you will need to service the gaskets at some point.

Crappy wrist band vs knife, knife won. I still had three spare Nato-straps so the last few days a Seiko 7002 has been comfortably on my wrist.

I have one of these. Seiko over-engineered this watch, literally. They can be had for reasonable prices. Look around I would say.

P.S. Mineral crystal, still better than buying a stock SKX or Submariner Homage that has not been properly tested.

Here's my latest plug for Australian watch maker Nicholas Hacko :)

The Timascus-project watch is now available to order, 8,800 Aus Dollars. Will be made order by order, one at a time.

Not that this isn't pretty cool, but when you have material that's this flashy, I'd want to see it on the watchface itself...

I think a lot of people agree with that: it has been mentioned/requested on instagram posts.

Given the decorative nature, I'm surprised that they didn't start with it as a face. Looking at the company website, the designs are classic/conservative: it would have been a big departure. But they are telling people that want it that they will see what they can do in the future.

I wonder if there is some way that it would work with rose-engine engraving. @Taverius, as the metal worker around here, might have a clue about that

Guilloche and such on titanium? I don't see why not, I'm sure it's been done.

Surface treatment might be a bit tricky - do you acid etch to make the damascus pop before or after engraving - but that's what prototypes are for.

You probably wouldn't be able to do it in full batshit insano colours mind, the face would be unreadable, as the damascus is actually mostly a variation in reflectivity rather than tonality.

I don't see readability being an issue if they go with solid hands and markings. Here's a 2-minute photoshop job:

I also think that people buying the novelty will more than offset those who are turned off by readability, at least in the price range that they're asking for.

In doubt go for Casio or G-Shock.

If I have to choose between a dive watch with sapphire glass and a G-Shock, the G-Shock is almost always the winner. One exception though, if you insist on the timing bezel yes old-school is better.

Your mockup looks great. I'd certainly like one (if I wore watches)

When I did wear watches, readability was prime for me. I needed to be able to tell the time, sometimes with just a sneaky glance, easily. Putting on the reading glasses and peering can send the wrong message to your present company --- even if you are actually wondering how much longer you have to stay!

Just bought a small automatic watch winder.

I am thinking of having the movement of my Seiko 7002 replaced with the NH35. Manual wind is a big plus.

You guys in the U.S. are lucky. 42mm, 11mm thick and ETA 2824 in a watch for this price from Glycine.

    These are my workhorses.

The citizen has been a near constant fixture on my body for almost 12 years. I'm not kidding. This is an ecodrive, so the case never needs to be opened for a battery swap. I've used this thing to check my pulse the first time I saw a Galapagos shark while snorkeling and to time the rate of my wife's contractions when she was pregnant. Thousands of showers/shallow dives/swims/falls with this thing and it's basically indestructible despite completely inappropriate use. As much a part of me as my alloy cavity filling.

The Skagen is the watch I wear to work, though it is also beat to shit because I forget to take it off when doing physical activity. You can tell this is the businessboy watch because them shits is set ahead; one of my greatest fears is being late to a meeting. I'm a wanker because of this and also the fact that I'm too cheap to spring for the real Danish design this thing knocks off (can't recall the company).

Anyway, this is a cool thread and though I'd share my few horological artifacts.

This really looks more like a concept render than a real product. Absolutely stunning design.

So I got my GW-M5610-1BJF G-Shock from Japan today. This is only for the Japan market. I like the darker colors (less busy screen) and intervened screen than the normal model for the international market. The black colors is so nice plus the Atomic Mode worked like a charm with the correct time/DST without doing any serious adjustments.

I'm in love, more lightweight than my normal watch (a basic Vercino watch which is good enough but not inspiring). Maybe I should get another analog watch that looks nice for me, and doesn't cost an arm/leg.

But... Skagen is a Real Danish Company, isn't it?

Wanted one their titanium-chain-mail-bracelet watches when I still thought I'd replace my previous timepiece. Quite affordable, but it just didn't fit.

Oh, and being late for meetings is good: makes them shorter!
