Last word of advice: if you need a tool watch that you can abuse get a G-Shock (preferably Tough Solar) and wash it after use.

Now feel free to ignore my future opinions on watches.

Really enjoying my new Omega.

 

In addition to my new Omega, I also ordered a used Rolex DateJust for my wife on Ebay from Dimonds International East out of Boca Raton FL. It was a newer one made after 2000. Most are made in the 1990s. I bought it for her birthday in March. After it arrived last Saturday I did not open it. Sunday, I did open it to make sure it was as advertised. It was running when I opened the box, but 5 minutes later it stopped. After checking on Rolex website, I started to manually wind it, but it was stiff with lots of resistance.
I sent seller a message using Ebay, then Monday I took it to a Rolex dealer. After examining it , the watch guy told me that there was something very wrong with the watch since it was hard to wind. He showed me where it had been over polished , non Rolex dial etc. He told me to get a refund. I am expecting to get a refund since it does not work and I have started the action with Ebay. I have also purchased another Rolex DateJust for my wife from BeckerTime that is $650 cheaper, but a 1990ish model. I will post back here when the matter is resolved.

 

Kind of risky buying a Rolex from other than an authorized dealer, hope you get made whole sorry to hear of the trouble.

 

Popular Rolex models (such as date just) are something I would be hesitant to buy used if I didn't know things to look for (or had someone who knew the things to look for). Granted, even then, pictures may not match or there could be internal issues that just don't show up until you get the watch.

 

Agree with @allegro. Sorry to hear about your trouble, and hopefully Diamonds East Intl. (a name which seems to possibly be trying to seem similar to the much larger "Diamonds International") hopefully will take their 100% positive rating on eBay seriously and take the watch back.

Curious that their website (https://diamondseast.com/) has the following disclaimer in their footer - "To buy a new Rolex, Patek Phillipe, Audemars Piguet, Cartier, Breitling, watch, please visit rolex.com, patkek.com, Audemarspiguet.com, Cartier.com, Breitling.com for a list of authorized dealers near you." Sounds like Rolex and other manufacturers might have pushed them (and other non-ADs) to be super-clear about their status as a seller?

Heard from the vendor today. He has received the watch and is ready to refund all my purchase price. I will post pics after we receive Rolex 2.

 

I like business like that! Even though it is a bad mark that they sent the watch out at all, at least they are prepared to make it right.

 

Good long term Ebay vendors want to stay long term Ebay vendors. If you shop Ebay long term vendors and use PayPal you are safe at least two ways. I could have just sent it back for repairs, but I found a cheaper different version that my wife liked better.

 

Good news @Claud! Happy for you. Consider taking the new Rolex you receive to an authorised dealer, have them vet it, take the back off and make sure it is not a very good replica with a stolen or fake serial number. There are some really good fakes out there.

Thinking about selling some of my other watches. This gold g shock gets 95% of my wrist time...

 

I prefer the Silver one. How's the weight on it. I feel like it might be too heavy for my wrist.

 

It certainly isn't light. But I got used to it, wasnt too bad. The $70k solid gold one must be a brick though
