from what i understand, Thriller album is considered one of the most impressive for mastering/studio guys.

gotta say no matter how loud i play it, it sounds amazing. so smooth and pure. will be one of my reference track for testing systems

A few minutes of Giorgo Moroder and then this gets stuck. It is good though.

So my favorite restaurant in Oakland closed a few months ago. And we were there on closing night, along with lots of the old servers and bartenders that we hadn't seen in years, and afterward one of our old friends takes us to a new bar.

And she still smokes, so we step outside for a minute. And this random dude walks up and bums a cigarette, and he's a musician and a DJ so we're chatting about that, and he says something about making "real" music, so I quote the LCD Soundsystem lyric about wanting to make a Yaz record.

And he gives me a look, then he reaches into his bag and pulls out Upstairs at Eric's on vinyl. Hands it to me. I laugh. "But I don't have a turntable." He shrugs, walks away.

Ok. So a month later it's Christmas time, and my teenage niece in the Midwest does have a turntable, so we giftwrap the album and bring it when we fly out to visit. We check into the only good hotel in town, and we get to our room and omg there's a turntable in it.

The wife checks out the small stack of old albums: "Crap. Crap. Crap. Crap. Neil Diamond? Never mind, it's scratched. Crap. And crap." But we have our Yaz record...

So that's the music that plays when we're in the room. All week, over and over. And it was great at first, because I hadn't heard it in decades and she'd never heard it, but by the time we left we didn't ever want to hear those songs again.

Except that after a month, we kinda did. So yesterday I bought the CD and ripped it, and today I'm working from home and it's been blasting out of the speakers since I woke up.

The rest of the album is here.

This is a laid back Metal song at its core. Talk Talk was beyond awesome...

Random find. Quite an epic song. Quincy Jones was the mastermind behind it.

This screams 1980-ties. Just not as Hard-Rock as the band name suggest...

Found a CD copy of The Tenement Year in a second hand shop in NZ last week. I mostly prefer their 70s output, but at the time I enjoyed this one and Cloudland ('89, which I only ever had on cassette and which departed last year with my deck).
