    I'll check out "For Sephora"

I'm very interested in the derivation of "manouche," also in gypsies and their background. I knew gypsies at least partly derived from Indian travelers, merchants, etc.

I recall being in Rome for the 1st time and encountering gypsies (about whom I had little knowledge). The Romans portrayed them as pickpockets & beggars--true up to a point. But then somewhere (Florence, maybe) I encountered a small group of gypsies playing various instruments, what the Brits call "busking." And I remember thinking, "There's more to this than meets the eye."

Another style besides Waltzes/Bossa Novas, they play well is Rhumba. Here is the interpretation of 'Caravan' (made famous by Duke Ellington and Wes Montgomery), by Gypsy Jazz musicians. There are many nice versions out there, but I like this one for the energy on stage and the fun they are having with each other and the guest percussionist.

    Here, you go.

PS: I will stop now to avoid 'genre overload' for today. :)

True. And, they were also persecuted heavily during WWII (concentration camps et al). Django himself barely survived since many SS folks secretly appreciated (Gypsy) Jazz and admired Django. Nuages was written during that period and reflects his struggles and hardships, which can be clearly heard in the famous melody of "Nuages".

I just love this song. An absolutely haunting voice, and an oddly disturbing video to go with it. Listen through your most 'intimate' audio setup.

I might have a distorted sense of upbeat but I find albums by
    medeski martin scofield and wood
    medeski martin and wood
    and Taj Mahal
    very entertaining.
Especially "Mind Your Own Business" by Taj Mahal.

This cut is from Scary Pockets' 4th collaboration with organist Larry Goldings ("Scary Goldings"). It features a star jazz guitarist, John Schofield and an amazing bassist, MonoNeon. The tune is based on an organ lick straight out of Joe Zawinul and Weather Report--it's a real showcase for MonoNeon's brilliant bass playing.*

    "The Shiner"

*He's right handed but plays his right handed bass upside down as a leftie would so he can get greater slap/perccussion effects from the high notes, now on top of the strings (got that? it makes me dizzy...)

I'm pretty old school wrt the music I listen to. That being said, here is IMO the best Ted Nugent by far:

    An aside...
Apologies to others who may find it off-topic, but a bit of additional trivia:

Sharing this as you were interested. Manouche/Roma/Sinti people were not Indian travelers or merchants per se.
They were nomadic tribes in NW India, and music & dance has always been their way of life - traveling from villages to villages and performing arts. Their migration started with the Islamic invasions (when the then king of Sindh was betrayed by those he granted refuge to) and they brought music wherever they went, settling along regions all the way to Europe. Perhaps, this is one reason, why an average Indian feels somewhat familiar with flamenco/bossa/rhumba, and takes a liking to it, even having never heard it before, as they bear resemblance to ancient folk rhythms here.
To this day, we have such tribes, practicing the same lifestyle, mainly in NW Indian states (Rajasthan and surrounding areas).

Back to music, a familiar tune for many (in Bolero rhythm).

Celebrated a good Christmas with family. Christmas or the Mid-Winter feast before Spring is about good company. This place has also been good company. I sometimes miss this place but life has changed.

Here is my favourite Christmas song. It also happens to be one of the best Metal songs ever, so hey the song is epic.

Could also go in the covers or 80s/70s thread - but being seasonally appropriate...

Found this on @rythmdevils music blog and I agree with his assessment.. This is some of the most beautiful music I've ever heard, although I don't think the first two tracks really go with the rest of it. The files on Bandcamp are 48/24, for those who care about such things.
