I forget Tiny Desk Concerts for long periods. Then I get reminded. There is a huge store of wonderful music there :)

This song works better if you don't understand French, because there's a mismatch between the music and the lyrics. Serge Gainsbourg's lyrics are, however, interesting for their use of split-rhymes:

    prétexte, réflexes, m'ex/-pliques
    qu'un ex/-amour, une ex/-plication
    à l'index, une ex/-plication

    (Goldsmith's score is brilliant)

Continuing the topic of film scores...Scorcese's TAXI DRIVER came just 2 years after CHINATOWN. While the stories occur decades apart, perversity and privilege (or the lack of it) are at the heart of each. But in TAXI DRIVER, the free-floating rage and anomie that characterized the 1970s were front & center.

The score was Bernard Herrmann's final work, and he certainly captured the moment:

Beat this classic with a pick of your own!

The greatest version of Bowie's "Heroes", the half-English, half-German, "Heroes / Helden"
