    Remember this album?

My Own Worst Enemy popped into my head the other day so I started streaming this on Qobuz. Not sure I ever listened to it all before. Think it actually held up rather well.

I know I have posted this here before but damn, every time I listen to it, it gets better (and I have listened to it many times in the past 10 years!). Just sublime. Definitely my favorite Bon Iver recording and my favorite recording I've ever listened to on youtube in which that is the only place the recording is available. He still hasn't ever released this on an audio-only format, has he? Right now enjoying it on a CS43131 no-name Chinese dongle to HD6XX

    Released: Nov 19, 2013

This is a very good (not great) album. I tried to become a fan, but STP never did for me what AiC, Nirvana, or Soundgarden did. I even preferred Pearl Jam (although, imo, their music hasn't aged that well) to STP back in the day. Heck, Foo Fighters were higher on my daily playlist.

This LP's sound is a flat, sludgy, dull mess. Noticeable roll-off in the upper registers, so it definitely lacks air - this contributes to the REAL (not perceived) lack of dynamics. I guess if I wanted to do so, I could EQ and boost everything >= 5kHz, but I don't feel the need to dick around with EQ for anything else in my measly library, so why should STP make me do something different? I may need to get the CD, as it doesn't appear to be a hot brick-walled shit fest. I think the album is worth that effort on my part, at least.

EDIT: the "Country" preset on JRiver's Equalizer is a good place to start for EQ tweaking. I know I said I wasn't going to waste time EQ'ing, but the presets made it easy to quickly get close to an appropriate setting.
