Looks like a sexy symmetrical stereo amplifier with big caps and heat sinks, and maybe even tone controls.

Dunno what those two mats with the hockey pucks in the middle do though.

The mats with hockey pucks actually look like this:

Much too lazy to model the fins...

Single Ended in. The round thing in the middle of the black rectangles are Sockets for chyuuubes. On/Off switch in back.

Hmmm... the middle pot is different from the other 2... I think the middle pot adjusts both volumes and the other 2 adjusts volumes for each channel.

    Did I win?!

Pretty close! No tubes. One of the most tube-like non-tubes you can get though. Heatsink above should give you an idea of what's in the middle of the black rectangles

Discrete transistors... big ones that can handle large current. But I am at the end of my "How to build circuits that do more than power a lightbulb" level of knowledge.

The transistors are big though. Current isn't too high. Very class A though... ;)

What type of transistors? Something boring like FET or BJT, or more exotic like SiCFETs or OOP stuff?

This should be fun. At least it won't be as expensive as Nelson Pass' beat.

Sony VFETs? I think I spy output transformers, too. Planning something like the SIT Nemesis (PDF)?

Yes to VFETs , no to output transformers. Much too poor for output transformers. Cost to build shouldn't be stratospheric. Will end up as a fleawatt speaker amp and a skookum headphone amp.

Making some modifications to the circuit after some fiddling around tonight...

You could pool your money together and split time sharing a little less than half of one of the output transistors :D
