Why does my LCD-2 rev.1 sound brighter than my HD650?

Comparing both graphs, shouldn't they be similar? For some reason the LCD-2's have a lot more sibilance and forward highs.

I have no idea why the audiophile community characterise the LCD-2 as "dark" or "creamy". The LCD-2 might be technically "better" but in my opinion it's significantly less refined than the HD650. It feels like the LCD-2 outputs excessive treble that doesn't need to be there.

 

I don't know what the character of the LCD series is but IIRC Audeze provided graphs are deceptive. But the 650 is very amp dependent. What's your setup?

 

I use the Fiio E12 and Schiit Lyr 2 as amps and the Schiit Bifrost as DAC.

 

Bifrost and Lyr 2 should be sufficient (and works with both dynamic drivers and planar magnetic drivers) so I suspect the LCD really are just brighter, or have treble peaks in the frequency response.

The 650 is darker than neutral and has very smooth treble. If you want more forward treble, more clarity by smoothing the mid-bass hump, you can apply Marv's KISS mod.
